Goomeri Autumn Rodeo
The Goomeri Show Society will be holding an Autumn Rodeo at Goomeri Showgrounds in Laird Street, Goomeri from noon until late today. The rodeo will feature a full spread of NRA rodeo events (bull rides, saddle rides, bareback etc) and there'll be lots of food vans in operation plus a DJ, live entertainment and a licensed bar. Grazing In Goomeri
A "Grazing In Goomeri" three course bush dinner under the stars will be held in the grounds of historic Boonara Homestead between Goomeri and Tansey at 5:00pm this evening as a fundraiser for the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival (which will be running tomorrow). The dinner will be catered by Beauty and the Beard Eats and Events from Gympie, and entertainment and a mini-history tour of the property - built in 1862 - is included in the ticket price, along with a free shuttle bus between Goomeri and the Homestead. Tickets are $95 per head and can be booked online
Red Cross Bookfest - Murgon
The Murgon branch of Red Cross will be holding the final day of their annual Bookfest at 118 Lamb Street in Murgon between 9:00am and noon this morning. Bookfest is a popular annual fundraiser for the group and there'll be lots and lots of books and magazines on offer at bargain prices. Everyone is welcome!
Bush Poets Breakfast & Sausage Sizzle - Goomeri
A Bush Poets Breakfast & Sausage Sizzle will be held at the Goomeri Sportsgrounds in McIvor Street, Goomeri at 7:00am (for a 7:30am start) to around 9:30am this morning as a warm-up for tomorrow's Pumpkin Festival. This will be followed by a heat of Pumpkin Bowls at the nearby bowls club on the Burnett Highway from 10:00am to 11:00am, and then wine tastings at the Lions Park rotunda from 10:30am to around 12:30pm, and a Lions sausage sizzle from 11:00am to noon. Alternately - if you prefer golf to bowls - the Goomeri Golf Club in Goomeri West Road will be teeing off for Goomeri's Pumpkin Cup at around 11:00am. Everyone is welcome!
Car Boot Sale - Goomeri
Goomeri P-10 State School will be hosting a car boot sale from 10:00am to 2:00pm today on the school oval in Munro Street. Cost to take part is $20 per car, but entry for buyers is free and there'll also be a sausage sizzle and cake stall to enjoy. The car boot sale is a fundraiser for the school's Cairns camp, and you can obtain more information or book a spot by phoning Tricia on 0419-720-407.
Lazy Sunday At The Palace - Nanango
Popular South Burnett duo Lazy Sunday (aka Grant and Vashti) will be performing at the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street, Nanango from 7:30pm until late tonight. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. The Nanango parkrun group will be holding its weekly 5km timed walk/run along the Ros Gregor Trail at Tipperary Flat next to the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event.
Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg
This weekend's local league competition will be played at Jack O'Chin Oval in Broadway Street, Cherbourg, kicking off with an U14s game at 8:00am (Kingaroy vs Murgon) which will be followed at 9:00am by another U14s match (Nanango vs Chinchilla). After this, U6s will play at 10:00am and under 8s at 11:00am before three U10s matches between noon and 1:40pm, and then three U12s games kicking off between 2:30pm and 4:10pm. Around sunset, the A-Grade competition will get underway, beginning with a clash between Cherbourg's Hornets and Murgon's Mustangs at 5:00pm, and followed by a second match between Nanango's Stags and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 6:30pm. A canteen will be running at the grounds and spectators are very welcome. Note: U15s and U16s will be playing against Dalby in Dalby today.
Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit evening from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment from Arthur Nettelfield and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), along with Little Butcher meat tray raffles to raise funds for Tanduringie State School.
