South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Top Of The Range Markets & Woodchopping
The Blackbutt Bazaar Boutique Markets will be running along the Rail Trail corridor near Blackbutt Memorial Hall from 7:00am to 1:00pm today as a fundraiser for the Blackbutt Avocado Festival, which will be held on September 11 this year. As well, the Blackbutt Axemen and Sawyers will be putting on a special woodchopping competition between 9:00am and 4:00pm in the nearby Blackbutt Showgrounds woodchop arena featuring champion Australian axemen including Peter, Mitch and Jack Argent; Kerry Head and many more. Two Queensland Titles will be contested and everyone is welcome!
Festival Of The Dams - Lake Boondooma
The first day of the weekend-long Festival Of The Dams fishing competition will be held at Lake Boondooma west of Proston today. Up to 40 teams will be competing for $15,000 in prizes in the two-day event, but there's plenty of fun to be had for spectators too, with markets and food vans opening from breakfast onwards; live music; children's activities; lots of raffles; and lunches and dinners available as well. The festival is being sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council and inexpensive caravan and camping sites and cabins can be booked from the Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. Final competition winners will be announced around lunchtime tomorrow.
Family Fun Day - Murgon
Rugby League fans should head to the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon today. The Murgon Mustangs JRL Family Fun Day aims to raise awareness about domestic violence. This gold coin donation event will run from 8:00am until late and will feature lots of fun activities for children (including an obstacle course and a junior mini-mod) along with the 4th annual Stanwell 9s and a clash between the Queensland Police Reps and the Frank Fisher Indigenous Reps that promises to be a lot of fun. Rugby League greats Gavin Cooper and Alan Tongue will be today's special guests and there'll also be U15s and U16s matches against Toowoomba Brothers. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
1950s Movie Night - Proston
A Movie Night featuring rarely-seen home movies of life in and around Proston in the 1950s will be held at Proston's Community Hall in Rodney Street from 5:00pm this evening (there'll also be a sausage sizzle and snacks available for purchase from 4:00pm if you want to fuel up). The Movie Night will showcase a time when Proston was a boom town with its own butter factory, sleeper mill, railway line to Murgon and extensive CBD, as well as a seemingly idyllic Australian lifestyle from 65 years ago that now seems just a distant memory. It's being held as a fundraiser for the Proston Heritage Association as they begin preparing for the town's Centenary in 2023, and admission is just $10 for adults or $20 for families with children. 2021 Kingaroy Eisteddfod
The final day of the 2021 Kingaroy Eisteddfod will get under way at 8:30am this morning at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street. Today's program will feature entries in Dance categories and will run into the early evening, with a lunch break between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Spectators are very welcome to attend any (or all) sessions. Cost is $5:00 for adults or $3:00 for pensioners / students for each session (morning, afternoon or evening). Note: There is no post-Eisteddfod concert being held this year.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Byte Nite Lite - Murgon
The South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon will be hosting a Byte Nite Lite from 9:00am to 1:00pm this morning to celebrate relocating from the pool back to the PCYC now cooler weather's arrived. Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Wheelchair Basketball - Murgon
The Suncoast Spinners and South Burnett Peace of Mind are hosting Wheelchair Basketball at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon, from 10:00am to noon today. Wheelchair basketball is inclusive, which means isn’t just for people in a wheelchair - it's for all people aged 6-70, and wheelchairs will be supplied. The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join.
