Nanango Cup Race Meeting
The Nanango Race Club will be running their first meeting of the new racing year - the Nanango Cup - at the Lee Park Racecourse. Gates and the bar will open at noon. The meeting's fashion theme is "open", so it's time to get creative! This meeting is always one of the biggest of the year. After the last race, the entertainment will start with Natalie Fenton singing from 4:45pm. The bar will close at 6:00pm. Free buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street (11:30am) and Scotts Car Park in Nanango (noon). Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under 15s are free). Everyone is welcome! NB. There's no ATM on the course.
Wondai Heritage Museum Open Day
- Wondai Heritage Museum, at 80 Mackenzie Street, Wondai, will be hosting an Open Day from 8:00am to 1:00pm today. Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions, and there'll be a sausage sizzle, coffee van and stalls. More info? Phone the Council on (07) 4189-9100.
Back To Basics Music Muster - Coverty
Today is Day 4 of the five-day Back To Basics Music Muster at 1385 Proston-Boondooma Road (13km west of Proston). The Muster will feature performances from Rob Breese, Rusty Ringers, Brian Letton, Lance Birrell, Cartwheels, Reece Blinman, Brian Howdy, Brett Albrecht, Alice Benfer, McKay Brothers, Clarrie Weller and Clyde Cameron. Walk-ups are welcome! There's free bush camping on site (pet friendly) and toilets (but no showers) and campfires are allowed. A canteen will be operating plus a coffee van but guests should BYO seating and liquid refreshments. Tickets are $40 per head per day or $110 for a five-day pass (under 16s free). Tickets can booked online or pay cash at the gate. NB. There's no mobile phone reception at the site.
Rogaining Events - Wondai
- Outdoors Queensland are holding 24-hour and 15-hour rogaining events in the Wondai State Forest this weekend, starting at noon today and finishing at noon tomorrow. There'll also be a three-hour mini-rogaine from 1:00pm today. Rogaining is an orienteering sport which involves long distance cross-country navigation. Yarraman Country Markets
The new Yarraman Country Markets will be on from 8:00am to noon this morning at Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman. The markets - which include a fruit and vege stall - are held on the second Saturday of every month. Phone Joe 0459-638-282 to book a stall.
Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell
- The volunteers from the Maidenwell QCWA will be supervising the regular weekly Saturday Library Day (featuring books loaned from Kingaroy Library) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. A library day is held in the Maidenwell Hall in Pool Street every Wednesday and Saturday.
Australian Rules - Kingaroy
South Burnett Saints will be celebrating their annual Heritage Day at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy today. There'll be a reunion of players marking the 10th anniversary of the club's historic first premiership win in the Darling Downs AFL competition in September 2015. All three South Burnett teams will be playing the Toowoomba Tigers: Under 13.5s will be in action at 11:30am, followed by the women at 1:00pm and the men at 2:30pm. After the men’s game wraps up there’ll be live music by Amber Goldsmith into the night from 6:00pm.
Wooroolin Community Markets

Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.

Rugby League - Murgon, Cherbourg
South Burnett A Grade Rugby League players are taking a break this week ahead of the finals series but the juniors are still playing. At Cherbourg, junior games from Under 6s through to Under 12s will be played at Jack O’Chin Oval from 8:00am. At 3:30pm, a senior women's game will be played between Cherbourg and Hervey Bay. At Murgon Sportsground, South Burnett Under 16s will be in action against Pittsworth at 9:00am, followed at 10:05am by an Under 14s game, Kingaroy v Murgon. At 11:00am, the South Burnett Under 15/16 Development Cup team will tackle Valleys; followed at 12:05pm by an Under 15 Boys game between South Burnett and Pittsworth. At 1:10pm, the South Burnett Under 19s will play Dalby.
