South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
Goomeri Show
The 80th annual Goomeri Show will be held at the Goomeri Showgrounds in Laird Street, Goomeri from 8:00am this morning until late tonight. This year's Show will feature a big range of equestrian events across five rings (from 8:00am); cattle judging (from 8:30am); stud and prime beef, led steer and heifer competitions in the main ring (judging starts at 11:00am); and pavilion entries across 14 different categories. The Show's Official Opening will occur at 2:30pm and there'll also be food and drinks available in the grounds; amusement rides; sideshow alley; and show jumping. This year - due to the COVID pandemic - guests are requested to log in with a QR code when they enter the grounds and to observe proper social distancing throughout. The Show Society's bar will be operating all day, too. Admission to this year's Show is just $10 for adults, $5 for pensioners and children aged 12-18 (under 12s are free) or $25 for a family (2 adults and 2 children). Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today, with stallholders selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables through to arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks, foods and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Art Gallery's "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts for early bargain hunters. New stallholders are always very welcome (stall fees range from $10 with power and water available, if needed) and you can obtain more details by phoning the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on (07) 4168-5926.
Wondai Parkrun
The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. All you need to do is register (once) online at parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to any parkrun event. More details? Send an email.

Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Nanango Mini Market
The Nanango Mini Market, which runs on the 4th Saturday of each month (except January) outside the Churchyard Opp Shop at the corner of Drayton and Burnett Streets in Nanango, will be running from 7:00am to around noon this morning. Apart from offering great bargains at great prices - ranging from plants to craft work, DVDs, bric-a-brac, glassware, books, jewellery, photographic work and mosaic art - the markets also have a $2 sausage sizzle, $1.20 soft drinks ($2 for a coke) and gold coin donation tea and coffee if you get peckish. Proston Rally
The Proston Car Rally Club will be holding their quarterly Proston Rally at their racing track this weekend (the club's track is located 7.5km west of Proston at 757 Proston-Boondooma Road). Racing will commence around 11:00am this morning and there'll also be burnouts from around 6:00pm, with racing wrapping up around 2:00pm tomorrow afternoon. Up to 50 cars attend Proston Rally Club meetings from all over Queensland and NSW and spectators are very welcome. There'll also be a BBQ and soft drinks stand running throughout the event, as well as a bar running from 5:00pm tonight and a hearty breakfast supplied by the Proston Lions club available early on Sunday morning. Pig On A Spit Night - Maidenwell
Maidenwell's historic Maidenwell Hotel will be holding its monthly Pig On A Spit evening from 6:00pm until late tonight (dinner is served from 6:00pm to 8:00pm). There'll be live entertainment and lots of cold beer, along with more pork than you can poke a fork at, all served up with with roast potatoes, pumpkin, corn, peas, carrots, applesauce and gravy! The hotel also has roast beef and spit roasted chicken on the menu for those who prefer not to put pork on their fork, plus a vegetarian option (ie vegies only), along with Little Butcher meat tray raffles to raise funds for Tanduringie State School. Barambah Shed Men - Mondure
The Barambah Shed Men will be holding their 44th meeting at Poppy Cross' shed at Mondure from 4:00pm this afternoon (first house on the right on WSF Ramke Road in Mondure). Today's meeting will feature two guest speakers: Poppy Cross, whose shed is like a museum; and Rhys McFadden who enjoys cruising the highways and byways with his wife on a Harley-Davidson motorbike or in a 1957 Ford Customline. The cost of the meeting is $15 (which includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks, and tea/coffee), but young blokes under 15 can attend for free. Seeds Of Hope Bingo - Kingaroy
Bingo games will be held near the caravan park entrance at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm this evening (doors open at 6:00pm). Weekend Of Symphony - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be holding an orchestral workshop this weekend at the Maryknoll Centre at St Mary's Catholic College in Kent Street, Kingaroy. The workshop will be led by guest conductor Gwyn Roberts to practise and perform Beethoven’s 5th symphony. The workshop is being sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council's RADF Fund and because of this, the fee to take part for the full two days is just $20. Saturday Rugby League
The second round of the South Burnett's 2021 rugby league competition will be played at the Wondai Sportsgrounds on the Bunya Highway north of Wondai's CBD today. U6s and U8s will kick the day off at 8:00am, followed by U10s and U12s at 8:30am. At 11:00am Kingaroy will play Murgon in the U14s, followed by a second U14s match between Nanango and Chinchilla at 12:15pm. After this, the first A-grade match of the day will be played between Cherbourg's Hornets and Kingaroy's Red Ants at 1:30pm, followed by a second A-grade game between the Wondai Wolves and Nanango Stags at 3:15pm. A bar and canteen will be running at the grounds and spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Cricket Grand Final
The 2020-21 cricket season will be closing today when the second day of the Gympie 2-Day Competition is played at Keith Manthey Oval in Gympie between Murgon's Crusaders and the Gympie Colts. Spectators are very welcome at the match, which will get underway at 12:30pm and should both offer some of the best cricket of the season. Note: The Grand Finals of the local cricket competitions were played in the South Burnett last Saturday.
Alice Benfer - Nanango
Popular South Burnett entertainer Alice Benfer will be performing at the Nanango RSL in Henry Street, Nanango from 7:00pm until late tonight. South Burnett Shed Men - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Shed Men will be holding their 66th meeting from 5:00pm today "until whenever" at 2 Darryl Crescent, Kingaroy. Guest speaker will be Chris Robbins, former owner of Betta Kingaroy, who will share his life story and passion for classic cars. Guests should BYO food and drinks - BBQs will be available to use and tea and coffee will be supplied.
