South Burnett CTC - Working For Our Community
2021 Murgon Show
The gates will open at the Murgon Showgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon at 7:00am this morning for the main day of the 98th Murgon Show. This year's Show will feature a big range of cattle events and things will move into full gear early on with judging for stud beef cattle, followed by poultry judging. There'll also be horse events in the arena; Sideshow Alley; and lots of pavilion and trade exhibits (open from 9:00am). This year's Murgon Show will be officially opened at around 2:00pm in front of the grandstand, followed by the Grand Parade. Other things to look out for this year include a Ute Show. Admission to this year's Show is $10 for adults; $8 for concessions; $5 for high school students; or $25 for a family (2 adults plus 2 high school age children), and children under 12 are admitted free. Note: Due to COVID restrictions, the rodeo and night entertainment will not be held as part of this year's show, but the Show Society plan to hold them later this year.
Amos Pellas At The Palace - Nanango

Maidenwell Folk Gathering
The main day of the twice-a-year Maidenwell Folk Gathering will be held in and around the historic Maidenwell Hotel in Maidenwell today, kicking off at around 9:30am and running late into the night. This is an all-acoustic event and during the day a variety of performers will be entertaining outdoors. In the evening, the action will move onto the hotel's wide verandahs and indoors. Admission to the Folk Gathering is completely free and musicians are welcome as well as people who just like to listen to music. There's also free overnight camping available in the hotel's grounds. Mamma Mia - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting the fourth and fifth performances of the Abba musical comedy "Mamma Mia" at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre at the end of Markwell Street, Kingaroy at 1:00pm this afternoon and again at 7:00pm tonight. The show features all the Swedish group’s hit songs wound together into a romantic comedy written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, and has been a long-running favourite on both Broadway and London's West End. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and concessions, and they can be booked online or obtained at the door if not already sold out. Note: One final performance will be held at the same venue tomorrow at 1:00pm.
Bookarama - Kingaroy
St John's Lutheran School will be holding the first day of their giant two-day Bookarama at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 8:00am to 4:00pm today. Bookarama offers tens of thousands of books on all subjects at genuine bargain prices, and this year there'll also be an all-day sausage sizzle and raffles too. Proceeds of Bookarama go to help the school and if you love books, it's heaven on a stick. Everyone is welcome and admission is free! Note: Bookarama will also run tomorrow from 8:00am to noon.
Yarraman Men's Shed
The Yarraman Men's Shed at the end of Mill Street, Yarraman will be holding one of its regular get-togethers today. The Men's Shed is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and new members are always welcome. More details? Send them an email
Sunshine State MX Series - Kingaroy
The first day of the weekend-long Round 2 of the Sunshine State MX Series will be held at the South Burnett Junior MX Club's track at Edenvale (behind Kingaroy Airport) from around 8:00am this morning until late afternoon. This competition routinely attracts hundreds of Australia's best MX riders who'll all by vying for a slice of the $36,000 in prize monies on offer, and it should offer a ton of pulse-pounding action for MX racing fans. Admission for spectators is just $5 for adults or $2 for young people under 13, and COVID restrictions will apply. Everyone is welcome!
Stock Horse Training Day - Nanango

Kingaroy Friendship Markets
The third Saturday of the month Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around 12:00pm today. The markets are jointly run by the Kingaroy Show Society and feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome! Seeds Of Hope Bingo - Kingaroy
Bingo games will be held near the caravan park entrance at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy at 7:00pm this evening (doors open at 6:00pm). The games help raise funds for local community groups and in addition to great bingo prizes there'll also be chips, lollies, drinks and other snacks on sale. Everyone is welcome! More details? Dinner Under The Stars - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be hosting a Dinner Under The Stars outside their shed in Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 3:30pm (when gates open) until late tonight. Guests should BYO chairs and/or blankets and dinner and dessert will be supplied. A licensed cash bar will also be operating (no BYO Eskies and no EFTPOS) and the Sempf Family will be supplying the entertainment. Tickets can be obtained from Kingaroy Office Central at 163 Haly Street, Kingaroy - $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $10 for U14s - and all profits from the event will go to aid RACQ LifeFlight.
Murgon Men's Shed
The Murgon Men's Shed will be holding a meeting at their shed in Macalister Street, Murgon (the shed next to the former Murgon Railway Station) today. The Men's Shed meets every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday to work on projects and new members are always welcome.
Yarraman Markets
The Yarraman Progress Association's Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (ie opposite Bendigo Bank) in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls, and are held weekly. Everyone is welcome and if you'd like to book a stall yourself - it's only $5! - call Joe on (0459) 638-282. Note: All patrons and stallholders are asked to observe proper social distancing to stay safe.
Proston Men's Shed
The Proston Men's Shed will be meeting at the old railway station building at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston for its regular Saturday morning get-together today, kicking off with a cuppa at 8:00am. The Wondai parkrun group will be holding their weekly 5km timed runs at Coronation Park in Wondai at 7:00am this morning. Runners follow a course along the South Burnett Rail Trail and the parkrun group is free to join. Watercolour Class With Sue Lederhose - Kingaroy
Well-known North Burnett watercolorist Sue Lederhose will be holding a watercolour workshop at the 1913 Council Chambers in Edward Street, Kingaroy behind the Kingaroy Art Gallery from 8:00am (for an 8:30am start) to 4:00pm today. Sue's class was last taught at the McGregor Spring school in Toowoomba and is limited to 12 participants. Course fees are $100 and you can obtain more details and/or book a seat on the web
Percussion Workshop With Jeff Jarrott - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Community Orchestra will be holding a Percussion Workshop led by Jeff Jarrott at Kingaroy's Uniting Church Hall on the corner of Youngman and Alford streets from 9.45am to 4:00pm today. Quilting Exhibition - Maidenwell
Today is Day 1 of the Maidenwell Quilters' two-day display, "COVID Creations", on this weekend at the Maidenwell Hall. There will be embroidery, sewing, patchwork and knitting to view ie. everything you can do while in iso!). Today's exhibition will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm with the official opening by Cr Gavin Jones at 2:00pm. Entrance is by gold coin donation with funds raised to support LifeFlight. Saturday Golf - Murgon
Murgon State School P&C will be holding their annual Michael Reynolds Memorial ambrose at the Murgon Golf Club on the Bunya Highway south of the CBD today as a fundraiser. This 9-hole, 3 person event doesn't require handicaps and will kick off with a shotgun start at 1:30pm. Tickets are just $20 per player - which include lunch at the clubhouse from 12:30pm to 1:15pm - and there'll also be a prize for the best-dressed team and a multi-draw raffle. Everyone is welcome! Cricket Grand Finals
The South Burnett's 2020-21 cricket season will be drawing close its end today. In the Gympie 2-Day Competition, the first day of the two-day Grand Final will be played between Murgon's Crusaders and Gympie Colts at Keith Manthey Oval in Gympie (the second day will be played next Saturday). And in the South Burnett seniors competition, the 2021 Grand Final will be played between Nanango's Scorpions and Murgon's Diggers at the Wondai Cricket Grounds on the Bunya Highway north of the CBD at 12:30pm. Spectators are welcome at either match, which should both offer some of the best cricket of the season.
Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft
POSTPONED: The second day of the three day Proston Golden Spurs Campdraft will kick off at the Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road west of the CBD at 6:30am this morning. Today's events will begin with the first round of the Novice; then Mini, Junior and Juvenile drafts; and then the final of the Reserve Open. And tomorrow, the event will conclude with the first round of the Open, the final of the Novice, and then the 2nd round and the final of the Open, along with some children's events in the morning organised by the Proston Pony Club. The Spurs is always a big event and spectators are welcome to come and watch the action for free. There'll also be limited refreshments in the grounds, and plenty of extra parking available at the nearby Proston Golf Club, which will also be broadcasting this year's campdraft live. Note: Due to wet weather, the Golden Spurs Campdraft was postponed on March 18. It may now be held on April 16-18, but this date has yet to be confirmed.
