2025 Blackbutt Avocado Festival

The 2025 Blackbutt Avocado Festival will be running all day today, with activities near the Memorial Hall in Bowman Road. The festival fun will get under way at 8:00am and run until about 4:00pm (but breakfast will also be available at the canteen from 7:00am). Market stalls will be operating both inside and outside the hall. There'll also be the traditional Farmers' Avo Games, which includes Avo Juggling, Avo Rolling, Avo Tossing, Avo Eating and the Avo Strongman/Strongwoman wheelbarrow race. The games get under way at 9:00am with the finals at 3:30pm. There'll also be helicopter rides available, live music and kids' activities. The official opening will be at 10:00am; the annual Avocado Festival Parade at 1:30pm (on the rail trail) and the skydiving Avo Drop at 2:30pm. A licensed bar will be running all day. Entry to the festival area is free and the event is designed to be family-friendly.
Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster
The 2025 Heritage Nanango Country Music Muster will continue today at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango. Music on the main stage will get under way at 9:00am and continue until 10:00pm. The bar will be open from 10:00am to 11:00pm, with meals available at 6:00pm. Confirmed artists at this year's muster include Kylie Castle, Brian Letton, Rodney Vincent, Amos Morris, Owen Blundell, Dean Perrett and Pete Smith. The entrance fee for today is $45 (or $30 after 3:00pm) or a weekend pass can be purchased for $70 per person (children aged 14-17 years are half price, under 14s accompanied by an adult are free). Camping is available at the Showgrounds and fees range between $10 and $20 per night for unpowered or powered sites - but a booking for any camp site is essential because the Muster usually packs the Showgrounds to capacity. Nanango Spring Races
The Nanango Race Club will be holding their Spring Race Meeting at the Lee Park Racecourse today. The fashion theme is "open". Gates and the bar will open at noon. Free buses will be running to the races from Kingaroy's Glendon Street (11:30am) and Scotts Car Park in Nanango (noon). Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under 15s are free). Tickets can be booked online Everyone is welcome! NB. There's no ATM on the course.
Wooroolin Community Markets
Wooroolin Markets are held on the second Saturday of every month (except January) from 6:00am to noon in the area around the QCWA building, beside the highway. There's arts and crafts plus plants and produce, and new stallholders are always welcome! More info? Phone Janice on 0457-143-729.
Squats For Salvos - Kingaroy
Here's something different! Do you reckon you can do squats? Leroy Gesslen is 77 - and a stroke survivor - and he has challenged South Burnett residents to a squat challenge at the Salvation Army's Family Store at 109 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy. Leroy will be there from 9:30am to 10:30am today. There's a $5 fee to enter the challenge, plus a $1 donation for every squat that Leroy can do more than you. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army's South Burnett Region Corps. There'll also be a BBQ available for a gold coin donation.
Charity Golf Day - Murgon
A two-person ambrose Charity Golf Day will be held today at Murgon Golf Club to support the Murgon Independent Lifestyle Project. Cost is just $30 per person, which includes lunch. Timesheets in at 9:00am. There'll be lots of raffle prizes to be won followed by a charity auction at 5:30pm. Meals will be available at 6:00pm (bookings essential). Everybody is welcome! Speedway Practice Night - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway Club will be holding a Practice Night at their track inside the main ring of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 4:30pm until around 9:00pm tonight. The event is a warm-up for the first race of the 2025-26 season on October 11, and spectators are very welcome to come along and watch all the action for free. The canteen will be open!
Yarraman Country Markets
The new Yarraman Country Markets will be on from 8:00am to noon this morning at Yarraman Memorial Hall in Browne Street, Yarraman. The markets - which include a fruit and vege stall - are held on the second Saturday of every month. Phone Joe 0459-638-282 to book a stall.
Saturday Night Bingo - Kingaroy

Junior Motorcycle Speedway - Kingaroy
The weather has wrecked the Kingaroy Junior Motorcycle Speedway Club's schedule this year so the "Junior Bees" will be hoping everything goes to plan this weekend (fifth time lucky!). The club will be hosting a big catch-up day (Club Days 1, 2, 3 & 4) today on the main oval of Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy (but use the Avoca Street entrance) with racing from around 10:00am through until this afternoon. Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell
The volunteers from the Maidenwell QCWA will be supervising the regular weekly Saturday Library Day (featuring books loaned from Kingaroy Library) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. A library day is held in the Maidenwell Hall in Pool Street every Wednesday and Saturday.
Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.
Cricket Sign-On Day - Tingoora

The Grand Finals of the South Burnett Junior competition will be played today at the Kingaroy Junior Soccer Fields in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy.
