103rd Burrandowan Races
The Burrandowan Picnic Races will be held at the Burrandowan Race Track 66km southwest of Kingaroy from 9:00am this morning until very late tonight. The first race in this year's five-race program will leave the barriers about 1:30pm and there'll also be a fabulous Fashions on the Field competition with prizes; a licensed bar operating all day and food stalls will be open (there's also picnic hampers - but these must be pre-ordered by May 5). The traditional pit-fired barbecues will be running at night after the races (BYO plate, cutlery and side dishes) followed by live music. Pursers Coaches will be running shuttle buses from Kingaroy at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm (returning from the track at 6:30pm, 8:30pm and 11:30pm) for $20 one way or $40 return - phone (07) 4168-5133 for details and bookings. Entry to this year's meeting is $30 per head and tickets can be booked online. Camping is also available on-site for $15 per night. NB. There's no ATMs or mobile phone reception on site, so bring cash.
Black And Orange Ball - Goomeri
CANCELLED The Goomeri Pumpkin Festival committee will be hosting the inaugural Black And Orange Ball from 7:00pm to midnight at the Goomeri Hall of Memory in Boonara Street. Tickets are $95 per head which includes a complimentary drink on arrival, food from The Phat Wag and free camping. There'll be live music from Route 33 so bring along your dancing shoes! Dress is "black and orange" tie. Tickets can be booked online

- Nanango craftspeople will be holding a boutique handmade market from 9:00am to 2:00pm today in the grounds of historic Ringsfield House, 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango. Australian Rules - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Saints will be hosting the Ben Brooks Memorial Cup Day round against the Warwick Redbacks today at Lyle Vidler Oval, Youngman Street, Kingaroy. The Saints' men's game will start at 2:45pm. Earlier in the day, the U13.5s mixed junior team of Saints will be taking on Coolaroo juniors at 1:00pm.
Cooyar Debutante Ball
- Cooyar's annual Deb Ball will be held this evening at the Cooyar Hall. Doors open at 7:00pm and everyone is welcome! There'll be a licensed bar operating and supper will be provided. Cost is $20 for adults, $20 for high school students or $5 for primary school students.
Inverlaw Hall Dance
- A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. There'll be the usual supper and novelty dances, along with a Lucky Door draw and a raffle. Music will be supplied by Chattanooga. Biggest Morning Tea - Mondure
A Biggest Morning Tea to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland will be held in Mondure Hall at McConnell Way from 9:00am this morning. Entry is $20 which includes morning tea plus a BBQ lunch. Cent Sale - Murgon
- A cent sale with great prizes (and morning tea) will be hosted by the Murgon RSL Sub-Branch Citizen's Auxiliary this morning at the Welfare Drop-In Centre at 44 Stephens Street West, Murgon. Doors open at 9:00am for a 10:00am start. Entry is $5 which includes one sheet of tickets. There'll also be a raffle and lucky door prize.
Wooroolin Community Markets

- The Kingaroy Men's Shed will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at the old Motor Pool building off Geoff Raph Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 8:00am to around noon today. The group meet every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday morning and new members and visitors are always welcome.
Yarraman Wildhorse Campdraft
Day 2 of the three-day Yarraman Wildhorse Campdraft will get under way at 7:00am today at the Yarraman Showgrounds on the New England Highway with the Maiden Draft and the first round of the Novice Draft. A bar and a canteen will be running all weekend. Camping is available on site (only unpowered sites). Entry for spectators is free, and everyone is welcome!

South Burnett Wheelchair Basketball will be played today from 10:00am to noon at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon. All equipment is provided but participants must wear enclosed shoes and bring a water bottle. Wheelchair basketball is an all-abilities game and everyone is invited to come along and have a go!

Kilkivan Campdraft
The Kilkivan Show and Campdraft Association will be running the annual Kilkivan Campdraft this weekend at Kilkivan Showgrounds in Mudlo Road. Today's action will kick off at 6:30am with the Ralph and Val Atthow Memorial Open Draft, followed by a futurity draft and a teams draft. There'll also be a bar in operation and hot meals available on site, as well as camp sites if you want to stay over. Admission is free for spectators and everyone is welcome.

Rugby League - Nanango
Nanango Stags will be hosting today's South Burnett junior rugby league games at Fred Kassulke Oval, D'Aguilar Highway, Nanango. Games for Under 6s through to Under 12s will begin at 8:00am with the last game kicking off at 5:00pm. There'll also be an Under 14s game: at 6:00pm, Nanango Stags will take on the Kingaroy Red Ants. The South Burnett Eagles Under 19s will also be in action against Highfields at 12:30pm. There'll be hot food and cold drinks for sale at the canteen.
Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell
- The volunteers from the Maidenwell QCWA will be supervising the regular weekly Saturday Library Day (featuring books loaned from Kingaroy Library) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. A library day is held in the Maidenwell Hall in Pool Street every Wednesday and Saturday.
Junior Soccer - Wondai
The South Burnett's 2025 junior soccer season kicks off today with games from Under 6s through to Cadets being played across seven fields at the Barambah club's grounds at Wondai Sportsground. A canteen will be open selling hot food and cold drinks!

Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.

All men and young blokes have been invited to the 54th meeting of the Barambah Shed Men, which will be held this afternoon at the Ged Salter's Shed, 47 Bligh Street, Kilkivan. This meeting's guest speakers will be Ged and radio announcer Cam Rub. Everything will get under way at 4:30pm and the $15 cost includes a meal, dessert, soft drinks and tea/coffee (under 15s are free).
