A 42-year-old Kingaroy man is in a critical condition after being slashed in the neck late on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to a house in Alford Street just before 12:30am on Sunday after reports a man had suffered a laceration to his neck.

They found a man with critical injuries.

He was transported to Kingaroy Hospital and then airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

A police spokesperson said it was believed another man, not known to the 42-year-old, left the scene before police arrived.

On Sunday morning, police had closed a section of Alford Street – from Youngman to William streets – and erected marquees outside a house.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around the time of the incident, or may have relevant dashcam/CCTV footage, to come forward.

Investigations are continuing.

Information can be given anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800-333-000.
