Police are hunting three thieves who broke in and stole alcohol from two Nanango hotels and attempted to break into a third.

Officer-in-charge of Nanango Police, Sergeant Brett Smith, said the first incident occurred about 11:20pm on Sunday, when the trio kicked in a window at the Commercial Hotel, on the corner of Drayton and Fitzroy streets.

They entered the building and stole a quantity of alcohol, before taking off on foot southwards along Fitzroy Street.

About three hours later, the same three people attempted to break into the Fitzroy Hotel in Fitzroy Street but this time failed to gain entry.

About 4:00am, the trio used a block of wood to smash a glass window at the front of the Palace Hotel in Drayton Street.

They again stole alcohol before running off down Palace Lane.

The thieves were wearing black hoodies and black pants.

Sgt Smith said police have been reviewing footage from the town’s CCTV system and business security cameras.

Empty alcohol bottles which were found in the grounds of St Patrick’s School in Alfred Street are also being examined by forensic officers.

Investigations are continuing.

  1. Hopefully they’ve left their fingerprints on the bottles and the police can get a match. Or if they were clever enough to be wearing gloves, then perhaps DNA evidence can be identified.
