A Murgon mother charged after her seven-month-old daughter drowned in a makeshift bath in 2021 will spend a year behind bars.

Lavinia Alison Murray, who was 21 at the time of the incident, was sentenced in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Emergency crews were called to a Murgon home on February 5, 2021.

The Crown alleged Murray had left the baby, Trinity Graham, alone in a laundry sink with the tap running for several periods while she tended to her two other small children and spent time on social media.

She checked on the baby several times, but the last time found a cloth had fallen into the sink, blocking the drain.

Murray pleaded guilty to her daughter’s manslaughter.

Justice Paul Freeburn sentenced her to five years’ jail to be suspended for five years after she has served 12 months.
