Murgon Men’s Shed has received a nice boost from Round 18 of the Federal Government’s National Shed Development Program.

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the the association would receive $7500 to install an 8kW solar system at their shed in Macalister Street.

“As well as bringing men together to work on meaningful projects, one of the great successes of Men’s Sheds is that they provide a forum for men to talk about health issues and encourage men to look after themselves,” Mr O’Brien said.

“They provide a friendly space to talk about the type of issues that a lot of men might not be comfortable talking about, like mental health and loneliness, and they also provide the opportunity for mentors for those facing uncertainty in life and who are looking to acquire new skills.”

Murgon Men’s Shed members were keen participants at both the recent Proston and Murgon shows, displaying a partially restored horse-drawn coach.

The Federal Government has invested a total of $5.1 million over three years in the men’s sheds movement across Australia.

The National Shed Development Program provides funding for health improvement activities, the purchase of tools and equipment, community projects and training, and for building maintenance and development.
