The South Burnett Regional Council will release 300 hours of bore water flow down Barkers and Meandu creeks near Nanango after local farmers knocked back an offer for the water.

The water will be released during water bore flow testing due to begin on Tuesday (June 5).

A Council spokesperson said the project was necessary to ensure that adequate water was supplied to the pumping systems which provide drinking water to Nanango.

The works, which have been scheduled at this time of the year because demand is lower, will include a 100-hour pump test of each of the three bores.

The spokesperson said the tests would not affect Nanango’s water supply.

UPDATE: On July 10, Council announced bore tests will start on July 17, not June 5 as originally planned.
