The South Burnett Regional Council has released its latest annual report after voting to do so at a special meeting on Thursday morning.

By law, all Queensland Councils are obliged to produce an Annual Report shortly after the end of each financial year.

The report is then vetted by the Department of Local Government to ensure it complies with State-wide guidelines, and approval to release it is usually given in late October or early November.

The report covers the Council’s major achievements in 2016-17 and how well – or otherwise – it is meeting performance targets and long-term goals.

It also provides financial data that outline where the Council’s money came from and how it was spent.

During 2016-2017, the Council says its main achievements were:

  • The final sealing of the South Burnett Rail Trail between Kingaroy and Murgon
  • The development of a new region-wide Planning Scheme
  • The opening of the new Kingaroy Waste Water Treatment Plant
  • Using Class A recycled water from the new plant to provide irrigation for Kingaroy’s sporting clubs
  • A renewed focus on road repairs and maintenance
  • Attracting $22.7 million in Federal and State Government grants
  • Improving the Council’s financial position by finding further cost efficiencies

At the end of June 2017, the Council’s total asset base was estimated to be $998 million and total liabilities $66 million, leaving a total equity of $932 million.

Hard copies of the Annual Report are available for viewing at Council’s Customer Service Centres and local libraries, and can be purchased for a fee.

An electronic copy of the 2016-17 Annual Report is also available on the Council’s website.
