Police were forced to direct traffic around the site of a three car crash in Kingaroy on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred at the corner of Knight Street and Walter Road at about 12:30pm.

Kingaroy Acting Officer In Charge, Senior Sergeant Brad Johannesen, said it appeared the crash occurred when one driver failed to give way at the intersection.

This caused it to collide with a second vehicle, which was then pushed into a third one.

Three South Burnett drivers – two aged in their 40s, one in their 70s – were involved.

A white Nissan dual cab utility vehicle and a yellow 1973 Toyota Crown were both extensively damaged in the incident.

The condition of the third vehicle is not known.

Queensland Ambulance attended the scene and transported two people to Kingaroy Hospital with minor injuries.

The police forensic crash team are investigating the incident.

  1. It was an accident waiting to happen. It’s a corner that almost leaves all drivers confused. We really need to have a round about or traffic lights.

  2. This intersection is what greets our visitors to Kingaroy…..at first glance, it goes against all logic. However, it’s really not that hard – give way to your right… but not everyone gets that.

Every single day, I have to use this intersection at least 3 times and every single day, I meet someone who doesn’t know their roads rules and nearly hits me, or just sits there like a stunned mullet – until someone else moves. The SBRC and the Department of Transport and Mains Roads needs to upgrade this intersection to a roundabout or traffic lights. Not one more accident should occur at this intersection.

  3. Is anyone who has ever used the intersection really surprised? Just try to get out of Knight Street and see how much abuse you are subjected to by drivers coming down Walter Road. No one seems to understand the right of way rule. I never take my “right of way” for granted and always wait for Walter Rd drivers to actually stop. I don’t trust any of them. I filled in the survey form for our local state Member last year citing what a major problem this intersection is, especially for visitors driving through Kingaroy who have no idea what to do. I have been told nothing will be done at the intersection as there have been no serious injuries therefore it is not considered a priority. Why not come and sit at the corner for an hour a day and see how many serious injuries were narrowly avoided!!! Is anyone really listening to those of us living nearby? Now the railway line has gone there is plenty of room for a roundabout. It is also particularly difficult for cattle trucks to negotiate the corner as well.
