Member for Flynn Ken O’Dowd is being petitioned by left-leaning political action group Get Up! to vote against the Federal Government’s proposed changes to Sunday penalty rates.
According to Get Up!, 700,000 “hardworking Australians” will have their wages cut if the legislation goes ahead.
“That’s why GetUp members are upping the pressure, by taking stories of local constituents who give up their weekends and rely on penalty rates straight to marginal Coalition MPs,” a petition organised by Get Up! reads.
“MPs like O’Dowd are terrified. They remember the political price the Howard Government paid back in 2007 for their WorkChoices attack on working people.
“That means O’Dowd’s constituents … are in with a real chance to flip his vote.”
