The Federal Government’s newest Mobile Service Centre ‘Desert Rose’ will make its maiden voyage through the South Burnett towards the end of this month to give locals easy access to essential government payments and services.

Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien, welcomed the launch of ‘Desert Rose’, which will stop at Woolooga, Kilkivan and Murgon during its inaugural journey.

“The new Desert Rose vehicle demonstrates the Government’s ongoing commitment to improving access to government services for all Australians, no matter where they live,” Mr O’Brien said.

During the past financial year the Government’s current fleet visited 381 towns and helped over 8900 people with Centrelink, Medicare and other critical services.

“Desert Rose will help connect people who live in regional and rural communities to Government services and staff,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This new Mobile Service Centre has been custom-built and is designed for use on roads that other larger Mobile Service Centres were not able to travel on before.

“Desert Rose has the same technology on board as any bricks and mortar service centre, and provides access to other services, such as free hearing checks.

“A staff member from the Australian Taxation Office will also be available to assist individual and small business taxpayers, to provide advice and information about tax and superannuation.”

Staff on the van will also be able to help people register for myGov, a fast, simple way to access ATO and other government services online.

Desert Rose will visit the following locations:

  • Woolooga – Tuesday, September 20 in front of Woolooga Hall on the Bauple-Woolooga Road, 9:30am to 11:30am
  • Kilkivan – Tuesday, September 20 in front of Kilkivan Hall in Blight Street, 1:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Murgon – Wednesday, September 21 near the Visitor Information Centre in Lamb Street, 9:00am to 4:00pm
