“Dr Bec” is enjoying putting her skills to good use at Kingaroy Hospital.

Rebecca Devereaux joined the hospital’s medical roster a month ago as a senior medical officer.

She has specialised skills in anaesthetics and obstetrics so her days are rarely the same.

Her time is spent across the hospital’s ward, emergency department and maternity unit, working under the direction medical superintendent Dr Raymond “RT” Lewandowski.

“I definitely enjoy the variation in my work,” Dr Devereaux said.

“I’m using all of my skills, which is great, and part of the reason why I wanted to come to Kingaroy.”

Dr Devereaux grew up in Brisbane and completed her medical training in North Queensland.

She has spent time in the Northern Territory working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and most recently was based in Emerald.

“Delivering babies in small towns, which are often the mother’s home town, is quite lovely to be a part of,” Dr Devereaux said.

“The hospital was promoted through the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland.  It sounded like a fun, challenging and enjoyable place to work.

“Also, the learning opportunities the hospital offers are phenomenal.

“The skill base of the doctors here is second-to-none.”

Kingaroy Hospital employs 15 doctors, as well as five doctors who regularly visit the South Burnett to provide specialist services.
