Bookings for the free buses must be made of March For Mental Health Facebook page

UPDATE March 34: Because only a few people requested to use the bus, the organisers have decided to car pool instead.

A “March For Mental Health” will link the north and south of the region on Saturday (March 28), but don’t worry if you don’t like walking, this march also uses buses.

The event, organised by Kaye Hibbs (Pathway 2 Hope Ltd) and Sandy Towell (Boots’n Bulldust Ltd), is scheduled to begin at northern and southern points in the region at 9:00am.

In the south, marchers will assemble in Errol Munt Park near the Blackbutt Visitor Information Centre while the northern team will gather at the Murgon RSL Club car park.

The Blackbutt marchers will then listen to speeches before marching around the park. They will board a bus at 9:45am to head to Nanango.

They will assemble again at Reg McCallum Park in Henry Street at 10:15am before marching around the block. Then it’s on the bus again to Kingaroy where they are due to arrive at 11:40am.

The Murgon marchers will trek to the Murgon IGA and back before boarding a bus to Wondai. At Wondai, they will march around the park near the Timber Museum about 10:15am, before they head off to Kingaroy.

The two groups will then join up in Kingaroy to deliver a petition seeking support for better mental health services to local politicians (if available).

There will be a free concert in the Kingaroy Town Hall forecourt from noon with performances by Amber Goldsmith, Tori Somers, Cruise’n’Groove and Ausphonic.

There’ll also be food available, stalls and jumping castle.

The march is part of a campaign by Kay and Sandy called “Step Up – A Call To Action” which is designed to gauge interest in the establishment of “The Village”, a place “of hope and healing”.
