A 25-year-old Kingaroy man has been charged following the theft of a large amount of cash during a burglary on Bribie Island yesterday.

Police will allege a unit in Welsby Parade, Bongaree, was broken into sometime before 12.45pm and cash, alcohol, and personal items stolen.

Also charged is a 35-year-old Caboolture man, who faces charges of burglary and committing an indictable offence, theft of an article, obstructing police, possessing property suspected of being used in the commission of a drug offence and possessing dangerous drugs

A police spokesman said police attended the address after the reported robbery, and were patrolling the area when they identified a person of interest.

An officer chased the man on foot along the banks of Creel Bend Creek before the man allegedly ran into the water.

He was arrested at the scene.

Police divers later located a bag containing cash in the creek.

The Kingaroy man has been charged with one count of burglary and committing an indictable offence.

They are both due to appear in the Caboolture Magistrates Court today.
