Old, damaged number plates must be replaced

November 19, 2014

Kingaroy Police have reminded drivers that it is their responsibility to make sure their number plates are kept in good condition.

Drivers can be fined for not replacing damaged or illegible number plates.

Over time, excessive exposure to exhaust fumes, chemicals, stones, the sun and general wear and tear can damage plates and make them hard to read.

Police and transport inspectors regularly check the condition of number plates.

If the plates cannot be read and cleaning does not fix the problem, they must be replaced.

Replacement plates can be organised through the Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre.

Rear number plates must also not be blocked, for example, by a tow bar, bicycle rack or other accessory.

If a bicycle rack or accessory blocks a number plate, and accessory plate must be used.

These can be ordered at a Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre.
