An injured motorbike rider was airlifted to hospital with multiple injuries after a crash at Manar Park motocross track, near Boondooma, this afternoon.

An RACQ CareFlight spokesman said the man, aged in his 20s, sustained suspected multi-trauma injuries after coming off his off-road motorcycle.

The Bundaberg RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter flew to Manar Park at 2:30pm.

The rider was flown to Bundaberg Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

  1. I’m interested to know how much Manar, Motocross Mountain et al and riders contribute to RACQ Careflight and others. They certainly drain our precious resources all in the name of fun.

    • In their rates, the same as all other rate payers, fortunately, when Careflight is needed, it isn’t determined by activity

  2. Ratepayers don’t pay for the chopper except for a small donation from council every year. The state government does, plus hours and hours and hours of fundraising by local volunteer groups such as all the local service clubs and CRISIS. I’m sure these volunteers would love to be able to spend their weekends roaring around a track for pure adrenalin rather than cooking sausages, holding morning teas, raffling quilts etc to raise funds for the Careflight to service the area.

  3. Silly me. I thought when you said “In their rates, the same as all other rate payers”, you meant ratepayers. Oh well …

    • The question was “how much” I suggested that probably the same as other ratepayers, you suggested that ratepayers alone did not pay the cost, I never claimed they did, it was a “how much” question and answer.

In fact only 30% of the yearly funding is from the community, including that paid by the SB ratepayer and out of the 1400 missions I’m sure that motorcyclists and other sporting accidents are a very small percentage of that 1400. I don’t see anywhere in this from the SBRC that sporting accidents should be excluded. If you feel so strongly about it, contact the powers that be
