Police are preparing a formal report for the Coroner in the wake of Saturday night’s fatal traffic crash on the Bunya Highway near Memerambi.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said a driver who had pulled off the road to use their mobile phone witnessed the crash at 9:20pm.

A 2012 Toyota Hilux was travelling towards Memerambi but failed to take a left-hand bend in the road.

The vehicle left the road, hit a culvert and travelled another 20m before coming to rest in a grassed area.

Police, ambulance and fire brigade attended the scene.

“Unfortunately the 23-year-old driver was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

Police at the Memerambi crash scene were called back into Kingaroy at 1:00am to attend an alcohol-fuelled disturbance at a local hotel.

A 45-year-old Kingaroy man and his 21-year-old son have been charged with disorderly conduct on licensed premises and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst in company.

Police will allege the son had been asked to leave the hotel because of his behaviour but became involved in an altercation with security staff.

The father then allegedly grabbed a glass stubby and attempted to use it to assault hotel staff.

Snr Sgt Frank said the police investigation had examined CCTV footage taken at the scene.

The two men have been bailed to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on September 11.

An elderly couple visiting Queensland from NSW were involved in a collision in Kingaroy on Monday morning.

About 11:30am, a Landcruiser ute, which was attempting to cross the Bunya Highway from Aerodrome Road, and a NSW-registered Ford Falcon travelling into Kingaroy on the Bunya Highway, collided.

The impact spun the Falcon around.  The driver, a 76-year-old NSW man, was taken to Kingaroy Hospital with suspected head and neck injuries. His wife was uninjured.

The driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year-old Wooroolin man, was also not hurt. He has been issued with a notice to appear in court on a charge of driving without due care and attention.

He will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 28.

A kangaroo may have been the cause of a traffic crash at Ballogie on Monday afternoon which led to the medevac of two patients by emergency helicopters.

Police believe the 64-year-old driver, from Durong, may have swerved to avoid a kangaroo on the Chinchilla-Wondai Road but lost control and left the road.

He was flown to Nambour Hospital with a possible fractured foot.

His passenger, a 67-year-old man also from Durong, was flown to Toowoomba Hospital with concussion.

Their vehicle, a 1997 Mitsubishi stationwagon, was totally wrecked.

Kingaroy police tracked down three teenagers in First Avenue after an alleged incident at Ryke Fuel in River Road about 9:30pm on Monday.

Police will allege the trio stole food and drink from the service station.

A 17-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman have been issued with a notice to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on August 28.

The 16-year-old has been dealt with under provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Two drivers were lucky to avoid injury after a collision at the corner of Harris and Walter roads, in Kingaroy, at 11:30am on Tuesday.

A 19-year-old man has been issued with a traffic infringement notice for failing to give way.

The man’s Commodore and a Mazda travelling on Walter Road collided.

The Mazda was being driven by a 21-year-old woman.

A 14-year-old girl wanted for breaching her bail conditions was arrested by police at a residence in Windsor Circle, Kingaroy, on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl now faces a fresh charge of obstructing police.

Police investigations are continuing after two men were allegedly found to be carrying items believed to have been stolen from a vehicle parked in the Youngman Street carpark behind Kingaroy Town Hall.

Snr Sgt Frank said police were called to the drive-thru at McDonald’s Restaurant at 2:30am on Wednesday morning after reports of a fight.

Police searched the men and allegedly found CDs, a phone charger and other electrical items.
