Kingaroy Police are frustrated that despite the installation of flashing lights and new signs, motorists are continuing to speed in the school zone outside Taabinga State School.

Flashing lights were installed along the stretch of Walter Road (D’Aguilar Highway) early last month.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy Police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said the lights had improved safety but some drivers still continued to speed.

A number of speeding tickets have been issued along the stretch recently.

Snr Sgt Frank said the new TruCAM speed camera, which recently caught 120 speeding South Burnett drivers, would continue to be operated in the area on a regular basis.

“I am urging motorists to slow down,” he said.

Kingaroy police are urging local residents who are going away for the school holidays to ensure they secure their homes, garages and sheds, as well as any vehicles they may leave parked inside or outside their property.

Snr Sgt Frank suggested people also ask friends or neighbours to keep an eye on their house while they are away.

Holidaymakers should also allow sufficient time to get to their destinations, especially allowing for delays at roadworks.

They should also make certain that all children in vehicles are restrained with the appropriate devices for their age.

Unrestrained children can be badly injured or killed in a smash, and can become projectiles inside a car.
