Kingaroy Hospital Indigenous Liaison Officers Jocelyn Clancy and Barry Fisher led the community’s first walk for Reconciliation Week on Thursday.

The short walk left Memorial Park and arrived at Kingaroy Hospital about 7:30am.

Twenty-three people took part, and shared a cuppa and damper afterwards at the hospital.

“The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week is ‘Let’s Walk the Talk’,” Ms Clancy said.

“So we took a literal approach and staged a walk.”

Ms Clancy was enthused by the success of the community’s first Reconciliation Week happening, and hopes it will lead to more events in the future.

“The Reconciliation Week walk followed on from a Close the Gap morning tea which was held at the hospital in April,” she said.

Reconciliation Week is held from May 27 to June 3 and celebrates the May 27, 1967 referendum which recognised Indigenous Australians in the Census.
