Hot on the heels of its decision to approve the Taabinga Downs relocatable home project, the South Burnett Regional Council yesterday approved alterations to the master plan for parts of the large estate on the northern side of Kingaroy, formerly known as Sunnyvale.

The council gave the go-ahead for alterations to the plan for the area bounded by the Bunya Highway and Taylors Road which is zoned for commercial, light industry and retail development.

These alterations will allow for the realignment of a road inside the development, changes to lot sizes, and changes to a vegetation buffer zone.

southburnett.com.au understands the intent of the changes is to make the project more attractive to prospective future commercial tenants.

They were made after several months of discussions between local developers and the South Burnett Regional Council.

These developers want to breathe new life into the lower portion of the project, which stalled at the end of 2012 after former developers were placed in receivership.

Last September, a separate group – the Sunnyvale Alliance – announced it had purchased the upper part of the estate with the intention of developing 280 residential blocks.

Yesterday’s approval was given to a different group which plans to proceed with the lower part of the estate, including the commercial section.

The motion to approve the changes to the master plan was moved by Deputy Mayor Keith Campbell and seconded by Cr Damien Tessmann. It was carried unanimously.

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said he was pleased to see local developers taking up the project, which he thought was a vote of confidence in the region’s future.
