Two young children were nearby when a man was struck by shotgun pellets at a Nanango house on Tuesday evening, police say.

Police will allege a single shot from a double-barrel shotgun was fired from the yard of the building towards the verandah during the incident.

Pellets from the blast peppered a 42-year-old Brisbane man – who was standing on the verandah – in the face and chest.

Police say two children, aged 6 and 7, were in close proximity when the man was wounded.

The Brisbane man was visiting a female friend at the house when the incident occurred.

Police will allege a male occupant of the house took offence, left and returned with the shotgun.

After the shot was fired, the man left the scene.

Police were called and a cordon was established around the area to make it safe.

The alleged shooter was later apprehended in a vehicle by police.

He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on March 20.

Police investigations are continuing.

A police spokesman said additional charges could be laid.
