The 2014 Senior Class was presented to the St Mary’s Catholic College community

February 7, 2014

St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy marked the beginning of the school year with an opening Mass and induction of the school’s Senior Leaders at the Maryknoll Centre on Tuesday.

The Mass was celebrated by Fr Nigel Sequeira who has taken over as Parish Priest at the Kingaroy / Nanango Catholic parishes from Fr John Huong.

During his homily, Fr Sequeira encouraged the entire student body to take up the many opportunities offered to them at St Mary’s.

The 2014 Senior Leaders and senior students were presented to the St Mary’s community during the Mass and received their badges of office.

The college’s 2014 Senior Leaders are:

  • College Captains: Cassie Firman and Gabe Crane
  • House Captains:  Matt Harch (Polding), Sam Hudson (Quinn) and Ellen Nixon (Rush)
  • SRC Committee Leaders: Brittani Merton and Stephanie Ross (Faith and Community Committee); and Teleah Brydon and Thilini Ranasinghe (Citizenship and Culture Committee)

After being presented with their badges, the 2014 Senior class gave their Statement of Commitment to the entire college community.

They promised to work together to bring forward new ideas to benefit the whole College community.

Their symbol for the year, a drawing of growing seedling, captures their desire to share these new ideas.

School principal Michael Nayler congratulated the Senior class on their commitment and challenged them to fulfil their ideas and dreams for the college community.

He also spoke of his great pride in the St Mary’s community and thanked students for their reverence and participation in the opening Mass.

The college’s senior students and their families gathered for a morning tea with the college’s Leadership team and staff after the ceremony.
