Bunya Mountains Natural History Association members John Learmont and Allan Aickin … Allan was a founding member of the association

Residents – and former residents – from both sides of the  Bunya Mountains gathered at Dandabah last weekend at the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association’s annual picnic.

The picnic is an opportunity for people with any sort of connection to the Bunyas to get together and swap memories.

The picnic is held at “Cedarvale”, the association’s slab hut museum which is made from hand-sawn cypress pine logs, nestled adjacent to the National Park.

This building, which is more than 100 years old, was formerly a cottage built for William Alexander McClelland at Bell.

It was carefully disassembled by Bunya Mountains Natural History Association members in 1980 and re-assembled at Dandabah.

Each board was numbered so it could be reconstructed accurately.

Inside is a collection of memorabilia from the settler history of the Bunya Mountains area which was formerly a major timbergetting area.

“Cedarvale” is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm on most Saturdays.
