October 22, 2013

Former Tarong Energy and Stanwell CEO Helen Gluer has been appointed to the new Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) board.

Ms Gluer, who was appointed Under Treasurer in March 2012, has also acted as Director-General of the Health Corporate Services Authority (HCSA) and is a former Chief Financial Officer of Brisbane City Council.

Treasurer and Minister for Trade Tim Nicholls announced the appointment of six members to the TIQ Board today.

TIQ is charged with promoting investment in Queensland.

The State Government commissioned a review of its operations by Queensland businessman Geoffrey Thomas and former MP John Mickel.

Their key recommendations were endorsed by the government earlier this year, including that it become a statutory body,

“A comprehensive independent review of TIQ earlier this year recommended the agency be freed from the confines of departmental process,” Mr Nicholls said.

“As such, we will spend an additional $14 million over the next four years refocussing TIQ to make it more effective and responsive to the needs of Queensland business.

“With the opening of a representative office in Jakarta and a renewed focus on north America, TIQ will be even better equipped to attract investment by promoting Brand Queensland to the world.”

The other members of the new TIQ Board are Mark Stockwell, who will be chairman; Geoffrey Thomas, Ian O’Connor, Josie Angus and David Edwards.
