The first major storms of the season have caused power supply interruptions to more than 4000 Ergon Energy customers in the South Burnett tonight.

About 1000 customers near Kingaroy were without power supply for 18 minutes as a result of the storms.

A major power supply interruption affected about 1300 customers in Blackbutt and Benarkin after lines came down in Enid Court, Blackbutt. By 10:45pm, power had been restored to all but 550 customers.

About 150 customers in Yarraman were also affected by the Blackbutt outage but now have power restored.

About 1300 customers in Nanango and 300 in neighbouring areas remain without power at this stage.

Estimated restoration times are not yet available.

UPDATE September 17, 8:00am: About 500 customers in and around Nanango are still without power this morning and a further 200 had their power cut this morning due to a leaning pole.

UPDATE 1:00pm: Power was briefly restored to most customers following the forced outage just south of Nanango this morning due to a leaning pole, however crews are now investigating what has caused the feeder to trip again.

An Ergon spokesman said additional crews from Hervey Bay and Maryborough would arrive in Nanango shortly to assist with the restoration in other areas.

They will support local crews working to reinstate power to 300 customers in the Brooklands, Maindenwell and Wengenville areas and 200 customers in the southern part of the Nanango town area.

UPDATE 2:45pm: Power has now been restored to all customers in the South Burnett whose supply was interrupted last night as a result of the storms.

Customers in both the Brookland and Maidenwell area and those on Nanango’s southside had their power reinstated before 1.30pm.  Power has also been restored to all apart from 28 customers at South Nanango from the 200 originally affected this morning by the leaning pole.
