Money raised by the road levy will be used on road projects across the region

June 3, 2013

The South Burnett Regional Council will raise $3,154,800 from the new $200 per annum Road Infrastructure Levy introduced in today’s Budget.

The levy will be applied per rate assessment.

This means that rural landholders who have several parcels of land tied into a single rate assessment will only be required to pay the levy once.

Pensioners will also receive a $100 rebate.

Today Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said although the new levy has been factored into the council’s forward budget projections for the coming three years, it was not necessarily permanent.

The levy may be removed if Federal and/or State road grants return to normal levels in the future.

Over the coming year, the Council proposes to spend roughly 50 per cent of the Road Levy on specific road improvement projects and the remainder on region-wide road maintenance.
