Gympie Regional Council has received two insurance payments in the wake of this year’s floods to repair the Kilkivan Showgrounds and the Woolooga Hall.

Deputy Mayor Tony Perrett said the $170,000 payout for the Kilkivan Showgrounds would allow them to lift the catering pavilion and construct a new, brick women’s toilet block.

Cr Perrett said Council was fortunate the facilities which had been repaired at the showgrounds after the 2011 floods mostly withstood the recent deluge. The new facilities would also be built to withstand future floods.

He said the work had already begun and should be completed by September, in time for the re-scheduled Australian Campdraft Association National Finals which will be held from September 4-7.

Ironically, previous repair work at the showgrounds had been completed in time for the National Finals which originally were to be held in April this year … until the latest round of flooding.

At Woolooga Hall, a $60,000 payment will allow Council to repair internal damage, especially to the kitchen and toilets.
