Police have arrested 197 people across Queensland on 384 charges in an operation targeting outstanding warrants.

Twenty-six warrants were executed in the North Coast police district which covers most of the South Burnett.

Deputy Commissioner (Specialist Operations) Ross Barnett said Operation Avert was conducted throughout Queensland from Friday to Sunday.

“Operation Avert was a co-ordinated national approach across all Australian police jurisdictions aimed at targeting and arresting those wanted on arrest warrants issued by the courts,” he said.

“We never stop looking for outstanding offenders and continually check up on them year-round.”

Across Queensland, warrants were executed for serious offences including armed robbery, firearms offences, drug trafficking, assault police, assault occasioning bodily harm, fraud, burglary, evade police and domestic violence.

“A further 27 new offences were detected during Operation Avert including drug possession, evading police and possession of tainted property,” Deputy Commissioner Barnett said.

In the North Coast district, three additional offences were detected.
