2008 Tree Farmers of the Year John and Jane McLaughlin, from ‘Mounefontein’ at Chahpingah, will be guest speakers at the upcoming Australian Forest Growers National Conference in Gympie.

The conference will be held from October 14-17 at the Gympie Civic Centre.

The McLaughlins have turned their 5156ha grazing property into a sustainable tree farming and grazing enterprise.

The property has natural stands of spotted gum, ironbarks, Queensland blue gum and forest red gum and produces various grades of sawlogs, poles, girders and fencing timbers.

The topic they’ll be covering at Gympie is “Integrating Forestry Into The Biological Landscape – Whole Farm Planning”.

Keynote speakers at the Conference will be Peter de Marsh, a small family forest owner and farmer from New Brunswick in Canada who will provide an international perspective about forming family forest owner associations, and Ric Sinclair, from Forest and Wood Products Australia Ltd.

There will also be an opportunity to choose from six field trips.
