2014 Wine & Food In The Park Festival

The 15th annual Wine & Food In The Park Festival will be held at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 11:00am this morning through to 8:00pm tonight. The Festival - which was cancelled last year because of floods - has steadily grown to become the biggest single festival held in the South Burnett as well as the region's most loved Autumn get-together, and it will be coming back in a big way. This year it will feature all its regular attractions (such as the Giant Wine Tent, exotic Food Court, wet bar and a jam-packed program of live entertainment) along with several new things including an on-grounds Dinner Under The Stars (held last night) and an unplugged artists area in addition to the main stage acts. The Festival's popular - and usually outrageous! - street performers will also be wending their way through the crowds all day, and there'll also be carnival rides for children on the grounds too. Admission is just $15 per head for adults (and under-18s can get in for free!). And after the Festival winds down most local entertainment venues in Kingaroy will be holding post-WAFITP parties for revellers who want to carry on into the night. St Johns Lutheran School 25th Anniversary Celebration

St John's Lutheran School in Ivy Street, Kingaroy will be holding their 25th Anniversary Celebrations today and tomorrow, with class displays, kids' rides, entertainment, memorabilia, and reunion opportunities - including a get-together at the South Burnett's iconic Wine & Food In The Park Festival this afternoon and evening. Today's events will kick off at the school at 10:00am with the ringing of the school bell, and this will be followed at 10:15am with the official opening of the Middle School building. At 11:15am, the recent kindergarten renovations will be officially opened too, and at 12:00 noon class photos will be taken in the old Mannuem Creek building. Activities will wind up at 1:30pm with the unveiling of the Honour Board and combined band performances in the Multi-Purpose Hall. In between these high points there'll be traditional games in the Multi Purpose Hall; classroom and school tours; whip-cracking displays; and many other things including amusement rides ($10 unlimited or $3 per ride), face-painting ($3) and Splatt ($3) for children. The tuckshop will also be open and it will be offering morning teas, lunches, afternoon teas, drinks and a lolly stall for children. Everyone is welcome!

56th Annual Proston Show

The 56th annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds on the Proston-Boondooma Road just west of town from 8:00am this morning through until around 10:00pm tonight. The Proston Show is always a big event in the western South Burnett and today's activities will get underway with trade show displays, stud prime cattle judging and horse-riding events. This will be followed a Championship Dog Show; and then with show jumping, poultry judging, a big range of pavilion exhibits and wood events - including the famous Proston Post-Ripping Challenge that's always fun to see. Other great things to look out for this year include Viv and Maurie's Shearing Shed with bottle-feeding of lambs; the Proston Stockman's Classic; a fun Vintage Car Show; and bush poet John Major. There'll also be a fantastic Fireworks Spectacular at around 7:00pm. In addition - from 6:00pm until late tonight - the Show Society will be running a BBQ, karaoke and a bar for everyone who wants to party on. Admission to today's Show is $10 for adults, $5 for high school students and $3 for primary school students (under-5s are admitted free). International Womens Day Celebration - Blackbutt

An International Women's Day celebration will be held at Nukku Nook in Bowman Road, Blackbutt (the head of the Blackbutt Rail Trail) between 10:00am and 12:00 noon this morning. Women of all ages are invited to come together and join in a "Celebration of Womanhood" as part of the International Women's Day global event. The morning will commence with a short talk ("Who Or What Were The Suffragettes?"). This will be followed at 11:00am with a morning tea, and then a leisurely march up and down Blackbutt's main street, finishing at Les Muller Park, with laughter, "hoots of joy" and noise-makers encouraged. Yarraman Markets

The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held on the vacant block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 12:00 noon today (ie opposite Bendigo Bank). The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and an under-cover play area for children. Saturday Cricket

The South Burnett's 2013-14 A-Grade cricket competition will enter its 18th round today with the second half of another set of two-day matches which were begun last week. In Kingaroy, Kingaroy RSL will play the Murgon Crusaders at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street; while in Wondai, the Wondai Wolves will tackle the Nanango Scorpions at the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway. And in the B Grade competition, there'll be a Preliminary Final (a one day match) between the Kumbia Rattlers and the Murgon Diggers at the Kumbia Sportsgrounds. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at all games.

The 2014 Aussie Bush Rally - the the opening round of the Queensland Rally Championship - will be held along bush tracks in the Gallangowan State Forest at Manumbar today.
