Pancake Tuesday - Kingaroy & Yarraman
Today is Shrove Tuesday (probably now better known as International Pancake Day) and it heralds the beginning of fasting in Lent. According to historians Pancake Day had is origins in medieval times when feasts of pancakes were held to use up supplies of fat, butter and eggs because these foods were forbidden during Lent. In Kingaroy, the Anglican Ladies Guild will be holding their traditional Pancake Day celebration from 9:30am onwards this morning at the church hall in Alford Street. Admission is a slim $2 and there'll be a morning tea, a lucky door prize, a raffle, pancake tossing, entertainment and a bring and buy stall, along with a special prize for the "best fridge magnet" (so bring along your favourite). - The South Burnett Regional Council's new Swimming For Fitness program (for adults) will be held between 10:00am and 11:00am this morning at the Blackbutt Swimming Pool at the corner of Sutton and Margaret Streets, Blackbutt. This program is run by a local swimming coach and is open to adults of all fitness and ability levels. It aims to teach new ways to become physically active and how to stay active for life. Diabetes Prevention Program - Kingaroy
- The South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program will be running the 2nd week of a four week Diabetes Prevention Program in Kingaroy today. Over 4 workshops, participants will learn practical solutions for reducing their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes through physical acivity and healthy eating habits. The program will run from 10:00am to 11:30am and again from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Centacare South Burnett Biscuit Tin at 15 Albert Street in Kingaroy, and it's completely free. Lift For Life Session - Blackbutt
The South Burnett Regional Council's Healthy Communities program will be holding a gold coin donation "Lift For Life" strength training program at the Blackbutt Showgrounds in Bowman Road, Blackbutt from 1:00pm to 2:00pm this afternoon. This new program - which offers a six-month, low cost course in strength training for people of all ages and fitness levels - will help prevent and/or manage Type 2 diabetes and other chronic health conditions. Lift For Life sessions are held twice-weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays and if you plan to attend you should bring comfortable shoes, a towel, a water bottle and (if applicable) medication.
