Here's something different! The RSPCA will be holding an Outdoor Family Movie Night at Memorial Park in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 6:30pm to around 9:00pm tonight. For $12.50 per adult, $7.50 per child or $30 for a family pass (2 adults, 2 children) you can watch the family comedy Hotel For Dogs (rated G) under the stars and get to help all creatures great and small at the same time. In addition to the movie there'll also be coffee, popcorn, and slushies available too. Everyone is welcome - even your four-legged friends! Bunya Peoples' Community Day - Bunya Mountains
The annual Bunya Peoples' Community Day will be held at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains from 9:30am to 3:00pm today to celebrate the ripening of the Bunya nuts and the history of indigenous influence on the Bunya Mountains area. The event will begin with a Welcome To Country and a Smoking Cermony, and will be followed by a Traditional Dance competition, an art competition and workshops. There'll also be guided tours by the Murri Rangers; a Bunya Lounge; cultural crafts; yarning circles; activities for children; and market stalls. This is a great free family day out - morning tea and lunch will be provided - and all you need to bring along is water, weather protection, sturdy footwear and insect repellent for ticks. Wondai Country Markets
The Wondai Regional Art Gallery's popular monthly Wondai Country Markets will be operating at Coronation Park in Wondai's CBD from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Today's markets will feature stallholders selling fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, useful knick-knacks and clothing. There'll also be live entertainment; lots and lots of other stalls selling great gifts and goodies; and special hand-made treasures from local artisans available from the Gallery's new "Studio" building just a short stroll across the park. The Wondai Kindergarten's BBQs will also be firing up from 6:45am to dish out hearty breakfasts to early bargain hunters. Yarraman's monthly Fruit & Vegetable Markets will be running on the empty block at the corner of the D'Aguilar and New England Highways (opposite Bendigo Bank) from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. Queensland Indigenous Golf Championships - Murgon
The second day of the 7th annual Queensland Indigenous Golf Championships will be held at the Murgon Golf Club on Bunya Highway at Murgon today. This 3-day, 54-hole stroke event is open to both male and female indigenous amateur golfers from anywhere in Australia and is being run under the auspices of Golf Queensland. This year a big field of top golfers will be taking to the field from 8:30am to contest the Men's and Women's events, but there'll also be A, B and C Grade nett divisions, a Junior competition and a Senior competition as well. The South Burnett's Evolution Solar Football League competition will kick off its 2014 season this afternoon at the Kingaroy soccer fields at the end of Oliver Bond Street, and the first match out of the gates will be a clash between Gunners and Wests. Gunners were runners-up in last year's First Division, while Wests were runners-up in the Women's Division (both against Nanango) so there's an interesting spread of talent between these teams. Second Division will take to the park at 2:00pm, followed by the Women's Division at 3.30pm and then First Division toeing the line at 5:00pm. Admission to the grounds is free, a bar and canteen will be running, and everyone is welcome!
75th Annual Goomeri Show
The 75th annual Goomeri Show will get underway at the Goomeri Showgrounds at the corner of Laird Street and the Burnett Highway, Goomeri from around 8:00am this morning through until late tonight. After running in a reduced format last year because of the floods, this year's Show will largely be back to normal with a full schedule of horse and cattle competitions, a motorbike vs horse barrel race, a good spread of pavilion entries (including Goomeri's famous Dark Rich Fruit Cake Competition); a lucerne hay bale competition; and lots of fun family entertainment including gumboot throwing; tug-o-wars; a jumping castle; miniature horses; and live entertainment. In Kingaroy, Kingaroy RSL will play the Wondai Wolves at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street; and in Nanango, the Nanango Scorpions will play the Murgon Cerusaders at the Nanango Sportsgrounds in Burnett Street. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at both games.

Round 1 of the South Burnett's 2014 rugby jeague season will kick off today at T.J. O'Neill Oval in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. For the early part of the day, the junior Cherbourg Hornets and Kingaroy Red Ants teams will battle it out (U6s - 11:30am; U8s - 12:30pm; U12s - 1:30pm; U10s and U14s - 2:30pm; and U16s - 3:45pm) before the A-grade teams take to the field in a double-header: Wondai Wolves vs Murgon Mustangs at 5:00pm; and then Kingaroy Red Ants vs Nanango Stags at 7:00pm. Spectators and supporters are very welcome, and a canteen and bar will be operating all day. NB. There is no game as previously advertised between Cherbourg and the Burrum Miners, as Burrum as withdrawn from the competition.
