Bushies' High Tea and Charity Quilt Auction - Kingaroy
Brrrrr! With colder weather not far away now, this probably couldn't have come at a better time: Quilter's Rest at 562 Weens Road north-west of Kingaroy will be holding a Bushies' High Tea and Charity Quilt Auction as a fundraiser for Beyond Blue from 4:00pm to 7:00pm this evening, along with live entertainment provided by Mike O'Byrne. Admission is $15 and everyone is welcome. You can also preview the quilts that will be auctioned tonight at the Uniting Church Hall in Alford Street, Kingaroy (opposite Shoppingworld) between March 20 and 22. More details? RSVPs? Kumbia Country Markets
The first Kumbia Country Markets for 2014 (run by the Kumbia Hall Committee) will be held in Bell Street and the precincts of the Kumbia Hall from 7:00am to 12:00 noon today. The markets feature homemade gifts, fashions, fresh fruit and vegies, plants and crafts and a sausage sizzle will be operating too! Purple Tie Affair - Kingaroy
RELOCATED: A charity night to raise funds for Epilepsy Action Australia will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall from 6:00pm until late tonight. The dinner is the culmination of Michael Sanford's epic circumnavigation of the South Burnett on a pushbike. Tickets are $30 each (or $500 for two tables of 10 people) which includes a three-course meal and live music by local singer Lloyd Back. A licensed bar will be operating and there’ll also be a trivia competition and silent auction. Tickets can be booked by phoning Kiaya Armstrong on 0401-616-920. 2014 Nanango Miss Showgirl & Rural Ambassador Presentation Dinner
The 2014 Nanango Miss Showgirl and Rural Ambassador Presentation Dinner will be held from 7:00pm tonight at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango. Pre-purchased tickets are $20. Shona Muckert Charity Ball - Murgon
RELOCATED A Charity Ball to raise funds for double amputee Shona Muckert so she can undergo surgery and walk again will be held at the South Burnett PCYC in Macalister Street, Murgon from 6:00pm until late this evening. This is a black tie event and will include a monster auction, a three-course meal and live music from “Bad Habits”. Crab Races - Yarraman
The Yarraman Hotel-Motel is celebrating its 102nd birthday today, and the hotel will be running Crab Races as part of the festivities. There'll also be $2 fairy floss and snow cones for the young (and young at heart), all-day childrens' rides for $10 per child, plus live music with Ryder from 1:00pm to 6:00pm, followed by Adam Kilpatrick from 7:00pm until late, along with a really great pig-on-a-spit dinner for just $15. Murgon Men's Shed Public Meeting
A public meeting to look at establishing a Men's Shed in Murgon will be held at 7:30pm this evening at 11 Rewald Street, Murgon. The meeting will be addressed by Mark Well, the co-ordinator of Nanango's new Men's Shed, followed by Murgon local Paul Pfeffer (who wants to get a local Men's Shed started). All interested people are welcome to attend.
Zumba Fluro Party - Kingaroy
Here's something different! A Zumba Fluro Party will be held at the Kingaroy RSPCA's compound at Warren Truss Drive at Kingaroy Airport from 6:00pm to around 8:30pm this evening as a fundraiser for the RSPCA's work. All you need to do is dress in your best fluros and be prepared to have a great time dancing the night away. Swim-A-Thon - Murgon
The Murgon Orcas Swimming Club will be holding a Swim-A-Thon at the Murgon Swimming Pool in Gore Street, Murgon from 10:00am to around 12:00 noon today as a fundraiser for the club. There'll be a BBQ and kiosk running and spectators are very welcome!
Saturday Soccer - Wondai & Kingaroy
The second round of the South Burnett Evolution Solar Football League competition will kick off this afternoon at Wondai and Kingaroy. In Wondai, Barambah United will play Wests at the Wondai Sportsgrounds off the Bunya Highway north of town, with 2nd Division hitting the park at 12:30pm; Women's Division playing at 2:00pm; and 1st Division concluding the day at 3:15pm. And in Kingaroy, Gunners will take on the Nanango Panthers at Tom Alford Oval at the end of Oliver Bond Street, with 2nd Division playing at 2:00pm and the Women's Division at 3:30pm (the 1st division match will be played at the same venue on Tuesday, April 1 at 6:30pm). A bar and canteen will be running at both venues, admission is free and spectators and supporters are very welcome!
Moonlight Karaoke - Kingaroy

Saturday Rugby League - Cherbourg & Nanango
Round 2 of the South Burnett's 2014 rugby jeague season will kick off today at Jack O'Chin Oval in Cherbourg. The early part of the day will be given over to juniors matches between Cherbourg and Central Burnett (U6s & U8s 10:00am; U10s 11:00am; U12s noon; U14s 1:00pm; and U16s 2:00pm) before the first A-grade game of the day between the Murgon Mustangs and Kingaroy Red Ants at 3:00pm. This will be followed by a second A-grade clash between the Cherbourg Hornets and Nanango Stags at 4:30pm. Admission to the grounds is $2 for the junior games and $5 for the senior games and a canteen will be in operation. Spectators and supporters are very welcome! Note: Today's other junior games - for U6s to U18s - between the Nanango Stags and Murgon Mustangs will be held at Fred Kassulke Oval off the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD.
Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy

The South Burnett Woodcrafters will be holding their regular Saturday morning meeting at their clubhouse, which is located behind the Kingaroy Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street. from 8:00am to around mid-day today. There's a bit of golfing action around the region today. Sausage Sizzle - Murgon
Ricky and Neil Collard will be holding a sausage sizzle at the Murgon IGA from 7:00am today to raise money to support motorbike rider Neil’s racing campaign in the Yamaha 2014 Australian Off-Road Championship. There'll be snags, soft drinks, coffee and a $100 board.
PK Duo - Nanango

A big Antiques & Collectibles Clearing Sale will be held at 5 Mill Street in Yarraman from 9:00am to 3:00pm today. Kerry Wyvil's large private collection of antiques and Australiana will be going under the hammer, and amongst the 400 lots on offer there'll be numerous bottle collections, cream/milk separators, butter churns, cross cut and pit saws, axes, traps, bullock yokes, razor blades in original boxes, a copper fire extinguisher, old chainsaws, old stationary motors, a leg vice, forges and tools, air rams, hand tools, 2 German hand carts and a Furphy water tank and cart. South Burnett Cricket Semi-Finals
CANCELLED The South Burnett's 2013-14 A-Grade cricket competition will begin entering its final stages this weekend with one day semi-finals matches in Kingaroy and Murgon. In Kingaroy, Kingaroy RSL will play the Nanango Scorpions at Lyle Vidler Oval in Youngman Street from 11:30am onwards; and in Murgon, the Murgon Crusaders will play Kingaroy Warriors, also from 11:30am, at the Murgon Sportsgrounds in Macalister Street, Murgon. Spectators and supporters are very welcome at both games. Note: If today's matches are washed out, Murgon Crusaders will play Kingaroy RSL in the season grand final next week at Kingaroy.
Antiques Show & Tell - Nanango
CANCELLED The Wildlife Wanderers Carers will be hosting the second (and final) day of an "Antiques Show and Tell" at the Nanango Cultural Centre in George Street, Nanango today. A qualified antique assessor from Victoria will be on hand to assess a maximum of two items per person and provide a valuation certificate (bookings are available for home visits for evaluation of larger items).
