Nanango Races
The Nanango Racing Club will be holding their popular annual Easter Race Meeting meeting at the Lee Park Raceway off the D'aguilar Highway just south of Nanango from 1:30pm until around 4:30pm this afternoon. Today's meeting will have a "Rock & Roll" theme and everyone is encouraged to either dress up in their best Rock & Roll gear. Today's meeting will be a 5-event programme and special highlights include a Fashions of The Field competition with great prizes for the best dressed ladies, gents and children dressing to today's theme. The club's popular Pink Champagne bar will be running all day too and there'll also be a licensed bar and BBQ; bookmakers and an on-course tote, plus live music and a few other surprises! Free buses will be runnming to the races from Kingaroy (noon), Blackbutt (noon), Yarraman (12:15pm) and Nanango (12:30pm) (to book a seat, phone (07) 4163-2346). Gates will open at the track itself at around 12:00 noon so that go-getters can get a head start on socialising. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to around 12:00 noon today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and routinely attract 320 to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Shaun Kirk & DJdirex - Kingaroy
Blues musician Shaun Kirk - whose 2010 album was voted "Best Queensland Debut Album Of The Year" at the Blues Music Awards - will be perfoming tonight at the Commercial Hotel at the corner of Glendon and Haly Streets in Kingaroy. And inside, the South Burnett's most popular emcee DJdirex will be spinning the platters from 8-sh 'till late-ish. Admission is free if you get in before 9:00pm. Easter Satuday Party - Hivesville
The Hivesville Hotel on Main Road at Hivesville will be holding an all-day Easter Saturday Party today, kicking off at 10:00am with a morning tea and massed vintage cars display, followed by live music and a DJ from 6:00pm until late. Meals will be available in the pub's dining room from 6:00pm too, and there'll also be a BBQ firing up in the Garden Bar from 7:00pm if you fancy something with an outdoor flavour. In addition to this, a mechanical bull on hand if you wan to test your skills at bull-riding and be in the running for some great prizes. Admission is free and everyone's welcome! Bowls Club Bingo - Kingaroy
The Kingaroy Bowling Club at 141 Youngman St, Kingaroy will be running bingo matches from 7:30pm this evening with over $1000 in prizes on offer. More details from the club on (07) 4162-1404
What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together.
