103rd Annual Nanango Show
The main public day of the 103rd Annual Nanango Show will get underway at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street, Nanango at 7:00am this morning when the gates open and prime cattle judging begins. There'll be all the usual show fun including a post-ripping competition, woodchopping, a ute muster, championship dog show, and a full range of ring events. The Show will be officially opened with a Grand Parade at 1:30pm. The popular rodeo will start at 4:00pm followed by a precision motorcycle stunt riding display at 7:00pm, the Heritage Fireworks Display at 7:30pm and a helicopter jump at 8:00pm. The Midnight Memphis Movers will be providing live entertainment. Other features of this year's Show to look out for include an Alpaca Fleece Show, a wild game taxidermy display and a big sideshow alley for both the young and young at heart. Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for aged pensioners, children over 14 and unaccompanied children. Children under 14 accompanied by a paying adult are admitted free. A bar, BBQ and lots of food stalls will be operating in the grounds throughout the day and well into the night as well, and car parking is available for $2. More details? South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway will be roaring into action at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy this afternoon and evening with their third Speedway Spectacular for 2012. Tonight's meeting will feature contests between V8 Dirt Modifieds, Street Sedans, 4-Cylinder Sedans and Super Streets - all in the no-holds-barred, smash-'em-up style of hi-octane thrills and spills racing that makes the South Burnett's Speedway such a crowd-pleaser. Gates will open at around 2:00pm and the first racers will slam their pedals to the metal at 4:00pm. As usual, a full bar and canteen facilities will be operating throughout and admission is $25 for adults, $15 for pensioners and students or $65 for a family pass (2 adults and up to 2 students). Children under 12 are admitted free.
A Knight To Remember - Wondai
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be presenting the fourth - and final - performance of their "medieval(ish) theatre restaurant" A Knight To Remember at the Wondai Town Hall in Mackenzie Street, Wondai at 7:00pm this evening. Tickets for the dinner and show are $40 per head (BYO beverages) and you can book them by phoning Liz on (0407) 037-206 or by emailing her.
Yarraman Markets - Yarraman
The Yarraman Progress Association's monthly Yarraman Markets will be held at Errol Munt Oval in Yarraman from 7:00am until around 1:00pm today. The markets feature trash and treasure stalls, car boot sellers, local produce and hand-made goods, as well as food stalls and an under-cover play area for children. Seafood Buffet - Murgon
Sakina's Seafood Buffet - which is held on the 2nd Saturday of each month - will be running at the Saleyard Cafe on Gayndah Road at Murgon at 6:30pm this evening. South Burnett 2012 Soccer Season Starts Today
The South Burnett's 2011 soccer season will get underway in Murgon today when Wests take on Barambah at the Murgon soccer grounds. Each group's womens teams will take to the field at 3:00pm, and this will be followed by a 1st division clash at 5:00pm. And tomorrow, the Gunners will be taking on Kingaroy at the Kingaroy soccer grounds, starting with a 2nd Division match at noon, followed by a womens match at 2:00pm and the first division game at 3:30pm. Markets In The Garden - Kumbia
Kumbia's new Markets In The Garden will be held in Bell Street, Kumbia from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These markets are now held on the second Saturday of each month and feature fresh fruit and vegies, jewellery, childerens furniture and toys, plants, hairdresser dolls and bears, bric-a-brac and collectables amongst many other things. There's also live music, face painting for children, a variety of free workshops and even a sausage sizzle! New stallholders are also very welcome. More details? Business Networking Night - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be hosting a Business Networking Night at the Kingaroy Town Hall Supper Room in Glendon Street, Kingaroy from 5:00pm until 8:00pm this evening as part of its South Burnett Exposed combined business expo and home show. A variety of guest speakers will talk about how innovation has helped their businesses, and hot and cold finger foods will be served throughout. A bar will be operating too. What's On At The Wineries This Weekend
The South Burnett's wineries and cellar doors will all be open this weekend if you want to relax in their cafes and/or taste their wines. The South Burnett is now the largest wine region in Queensland and (excluding the Granite Belt) larger than all the State's other wine regions put together. South Burnett Exposed - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Regional Council will be presenting the 2012 South Burnett Exposed combined business expo and home show at the Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street, Kingaroy today and tomorrow. The Expo will feature a wide range of local businesses exhibiting their wares along with a variety of free workshops covering anything from fishing to tendering for Council business. Dance - Booie Hall
A dance will be held at Booie Hall from 8:00pm until late this evening. Music will be supplied by Jus' Dancin' and there'll be the usual great supper, novelties and lucky door prize. Women Walk The World - Kumbia
The Kumbia QCWA will be hosting an unusual fund-raiser today: a non-stop walkathon around Kumbia by members Val Smith and Marion Mudra to raise awareness and funds for the Women Walk The World project (WWTW), which gives support to the women and girls in Third World countries who must walk many kilometers each day to collect water for their families. The WWTW project is being run by the Associated Country Women Of The World around the world on April 29th, and funds raised from the event will be used to help construct wells in Third World villages. The walkathon will kick off at 7:30am and at 2:00pm the QCWA will also be hosting a public forum at their Bell Street premises so that locals can get to meet Division 6 candidates Cheryl Dalton and Don Pinwill to ask them questions in advance of the up-coming Council elections on April 28th.
