2026 Proston ShowThe main day of the 68th annual Proston Show will be held at Proston Showgrounds at 41 Proston-Boondooma Road, just west of town, from 6:00am this morning (when the gates open) through until late tonight. All-day unlimited amusement rides are just $10! There'll be also the usual show day attractions, including sideshow alley, kids' activities, whipcracking, woodchopping, chainsaw races and the popular dog high-jumping competition at 4:00pm! Stud cattle judging will begin at 8:00am with prime cattle from 9:00am and Interbreed at 1:30pm. The official opening will be at 1:30pm, followed by the Grand Parade. A licensed bar and canteen will be open all day. The fireworks display at 7:00pm will be followed by live music by Kerry Kennedy and his band until late. Admission prices are $15 for adults and $5 for high school students (under 12s are free) or $35 for a family pass. You can get the full 2026 Show Schedule online
Goomeri Hall Of Memory Centenary
The Goomeri Hall Of Memory, at 17 Boonara Street, Goomeri, will be celebrating its centenary today with historic displays and a special lunch. The hall will open at 10:00am so visitors can browse memorabilia, artefacts and old photographs connected to the hall. A two-course lunch will also be available later in the day, accompanied by old-time piano tunes. Visitors will also gather outside the hall to re-enact an historic 1926 photograph. Following this, Goomeri P-10 will be hosting old-style games, including egg-and-spoon races, sack and three-legged races and a maypole. Kilkivan State School Sesquicentenary
- Kilkivan P-10 State School will be celebrating its 150th anniversary today with celebrations organised by the P&C. From 9:00am to noon, visitors are invited to visit the school, reminisce with friends and see inside the time capsule. There will be a ceremony at 10:00am. Then the Kumbia Museum will be open from noon to 2:00pm with school memorabilia and an historical classroom display. In the evening, visitors are invited to catch-up for a meal at the Kilkivan Hotel.
International Women's Day - Nanango
- The Nanango QCWA will be holding a special International Women's Day function at their clubhouse at 59 Fitzroy Street, Nanango, (opposite IGA), from 10:00am this morning. Nanango Country Markets
The Nanango Show Society will be holding their regular monthly Country Markets at the Nanango Showgrounds in Cairns Street from 6:00am to 11:30am today. As usual, the markets will feature a wide variety of craft stalls, new and used goods, plants, poultry and pets. The Nanango Markets are the largest rural market in south east Queensland and attract up to 420 stallholders. But new stallholders are always very welcome too! More info? Ringsfield House Open Day - Nanango
- Historic Ringsfield House, 41-45 Alfred Street, Nanango, is hosting an Open Day today! Local artists will be featured in the art gallery from 9:00am to noon, plus tea and scones will be available on the verandah for $12.00 per person from 9:00am to 11:00am. (As a bonus, visitors can also pop on down to the Energy Museum in Henry Street where the historic Nanango Butter Factory diesel motor will be fired up this morning or drop in to inspect the former Masonic Lodge in Gipps Street which will also be open for inspection!)
Wooroolin Line Dancers

South Burnett Cricket
Round 1 of the finals of the South Burnett senior cricket competition will be played today in Kingaroy. The Qualifying Final (winner through to the Grand Final) will be played between Saints and Kingaroy Services at Taabinga State School. The Elimination Final (sudden death for the loser; the winner to play the loser of the Qualifying Final) will be between Wooroolin Warriors and Nanango Scorpions at Lyle Vidler Oval. Both games to start at 12:30pm. South Burnett junior competition games will also be played from 8:00am. Stage 1: Kingaroy Emus v Kumbia Rattlers at Kumbia Sportsground; Stage 2: Murgon v Kingaroy Kookaburras at Murgon Showgrounds; and Nanango Scorpions Purple v Nanango Scorpions Yellow at Alan Downie Sports Fields; Nanango; Stage 3: Murgon v Nanango Scorpions at Murgon Showgrounds. In the Gympie A Grade competition, Day 1 of the two-day competition Grand Final will be played between Wooroolin Warriors and Gympie Harlequins at Jack Ison Oval in Gympie.

- South Burnett Futsal is holding trials for young players today in the Maryknoll Centre at St Mary's Catholic College in Kingaroy. Senior Soccer - Kingaroy
Kingaroy Senior Soccer Club will be hosting a game from the Darling Downs Community competition at their grounds at Tom Alford Oval in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy, this evening. This is the club's first home game of the season! Kingaroy’s Division 2 team will take on Pittsworth Vikings at 5:00pm. The canteen will be open with hot food and cold drinks. Spectators are urged to come along and support the local team in action!
Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell

Blackbutt Rally
POSTPONED The 2026 Motorsport Australia Queensland Rally Championships will begin today with Round 1 contested in the forestry areas around Benarkin. The crews will assemble at the Blackbutt Showgrounds with the day / night rally in the forestry. There's day / night spectator points on Emu Creek Road. There's also an after-party from 4:30pm at the showgrounds, with a food van!
