Cooyar Show & Campdraft
The main public day of this year's 76th Cooyar Show will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds in Rangemore Road from early this morning through until late tonight. The Open Campdraft will get under way early at 5:30am. At 8:00am, the Show will start with Stud Beef Cattle judging at 8:00am, Led Steers and the opening of the pavilions. At 11:00am, the Maiden 4 Maiden, Novice, Maiden, Ladies and Open Campdraft finals will start. At 2:00pm, the $2-a-ride sideshows will open along with free face-painting and show bags and the Campdraft finals presentations. This will be followed by the Grand Parade at 2:30pm; the official opening at 2:45pm; and then post-ripping at 3:10pm and a Young Farmers Challenge at 3:25pm. Rooftop Express will have two shows: at 6:10pm and 7:30pm. The Bull & Bronc Ride will get under way at 6:30pm, followed by Fireworks at around 8:30pm before the day wraps up with music until late. Admission to this year's show is $25 for adults (16 years and over), $10 for youngsters aged 11 to 15 and free for under-10s. Note: There are no ATM or EFTPOS facilities available in Cooyar, so bring cash.
Murgon Showgirl Evening
- The Murgon Show Society will be holding their Showgirl and Rural Ambassador presentation evening from 6:00pm tonight at the Murgon Bowls Club. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children (aged 10 & under). Dress is smart evening wear. Tickets are available online or from Quinn & Co at 131 Lamb Street, Murgon.
Reef & Beef - Coolabunia
Coolabunia State School P&C will be hosting their annual Reef & Beef night in the school's grounds off the D'Aguilar Highway at Coolabunia from 4:30pm this afternoon to around midnight tonight. This very popular event offers delicious all-you-can seafood, beef, desserts, salads etc accompanied by live entertainment from MISfITZ and Amber Goldsmith; raffles; and a licensed bar! Tickets are $100 per head, with all proceeds going to aid the school's P&C. Tickets are limited and need to be booked online. Everyone 18 years or over is welcome!
Bunya Nut Celebrations
- The Bunya Mountains Natural History Association and the Bunya Mountains Community Association have a special bunya nut celebration planned for this weekend at 'Cedarvale' museum and Dandabah on the Bunya Mountains. Today there'll be there will bunya nut shucking and tasting from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Back To Basics Music Muster - Coverty
Today is Day 4 of the five-day Back To Basics Music Muster at 1385 Proston-Boondooma Road, Coverty (13km west of Proston). The Muster will feature performances from Rob Breese, Kerry Kennedy, Lach Mackay, Bob Walters, Brendon Walmsley, Reece Blinman, Brian Howard, Drew Blundell, Steve Sparrow, Alice Benfer, Clarrie Weller and Clyde Cameron plus extra guest artists, walk-up acts and bush poetry. There's free bush camping on site and toilets (but no showers) and campfires are allowed. A canteen will be operating plus a coffee van but guests should BYO seating and liquid refreshments. Tickets are $40 per head per day or $110 for a five-day pass (under 16s free) but must be booked in advance. Tickets can ordered by phoning the organisers on 0412-884-482 or booked online.
South Burnett Speedway - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Speedway season action continues this evening with the Compact Speedcars Queensland Title being raced at the Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy. There'll also Wingless Sprints contesting the Shane Ryan Memorial, Street Stocks, Junior Sedans (Top Stars & New Stars), National 4s and Legend cars. The evening will also be a fundraiser for Relay For Life so wear purple and bring along some cash for the donation buckets! Gates will open at 2:00pm, racing will start at 4:00pm and the excitement will continue until around 10:30pm tonight. Admission is $30 for adults, $25 for students (with ID) and aged or disability pensioners; or $85 for a family of two adults and two students (children 12 and under are free). Everyone is welcome!
Burrandowan Campdraft
The second day of the three-day annual Burrandowan Campdraft will be held at the Chahpingah Reserve on Burra Burri Road, about 60km south-west of Kingaroy, from early this morning until around sunset. Today's action will include a gymkhana from 9:00am, plus Maiden and Maiden 4 Maiden rounds, Open rounds and the Open final. The campdraft is a fundraiser for the Burrandowan Picnic Races in May. Kingaroy Friendship Markets
- The monthly Kingaroy Friendship Markets will be held at Kingaroy Showgrounds in Youngman Street, Kingaroy from 7:00am to around noon today. The markets, which are held on the third Saturday of every month, feature a range of arts, crafts, food stalls, fruit and garden stalls, plus unusual bric-a-brac. New stallholders are always very welcome.
Annual Art Exhibition - Bell
The annual Bell Art Exhibition will open with a gala event at 1:00pm this afternoon at the Bell Bunya Community Centre, corner Wallace and Maxwell streets, Bell. The award winners will be announced and food and drinks will be available. Entry is $15 (tickets are available at the door). The exhibition will then run from 9:00am to 3:00pm daily at the Bell Memorial Hall, 59 Wallace Street, from February 23 to March 1.
Murgon Music Jam

Wooroolin Line Dancers

Proston Community Markets
The monthly Proston Community Markets - held on the 3rd Saturday of each month - will be running today outside the QCWA Rooms at Railway Park in Rodney Street, Proston from 7:00am this morning. Stalls feature crafts, plants as well as gifts and bric-a-brac. There'll also be a raffle, sausage sizzle and hot and cold drinks. All stalls welcome!
Joan Allery Memorial Golf Day - Blackbutt

South Burnett Cricket
South Burnett Cricket Association Junior and Senior games will be played around the region today. In Stage 2, Kingaroy Cobras v Murgon; and Nanango Scorpions Yellow v Kingaroy Kookaburras at Alan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango; in Stage 3, Nanango Scorpions v Murgon at Alan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango. All junior games start at 8:00am. In South Burnett Senior Cricket, Kingaroy Services v Saints at Taabinga State School; Wondai Wolves v Nanango at Wondai Cricket Ground; and Murgon Diggers v Wooroolin Warriors at Murgon Sportsground. Senior games start at 12:30pm. In the Gympie competition, Wooroolin Warriors will take on Gympie Colts in Day 1 of their two-day match at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy; and at Murgon Showgrounds, Murgon Crusaders will face Gympie Royals in Day 1 of their two-day game.
