Valentine's Day Races - Nanango
The Nanango Race Club will be holding its annual Valentine's Day Race Meeting at Lee Park Racecourse, off the D'Aguilar Highway today. The fashion theme is "open". Gates and the bar will open at noon with race 1 to jump at 1:30pm. Free buses will be running to the races but bookings are essential! Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for pensioners (under 18s are free). There'll be free face-painting for children, raffles by the Nanango Stags and musical entertainment from local singer Natalie Fenton after the last race until late. Tickets can be booked online. Everyone is welcome! NB. There's no ATM on the course.
SB Animal Management Centre Open Day - Kingaroy
- South Burnett Regional Council is holding a special open day (and official opening) of Council's Animal Management Centre (the former RSPCA premises) from 9:00am to 2:00pm today at 43 Warren Truss Drive (near Kingaroy Airport). There'll be free microchipping for dogs registered on the day (or currently registered with Council) and free microchipping for cats, and a sausage sizzle! Yellowbelly Fishing Competition - Lake Boondooma
The 35th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam near Proston all this weekend, commencing at 5:00am today and concluding about 10:00am tomorrow. There will be weigh-ins and lucky draws for competitors at 12:30pm and 6:30pm today. The family-friendly event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association - will have heaps of prizes at each weigh-in period. Food vans and a licensed bar will be operating and there'll also be raffles and giveaways! Accommodation is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. All competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. More information is available online

Comedy For A Cause - Blackbutt
It was washed out last November ... so here goes again! Three top comedians - Craig Quartermaine, Mike Van Acker and Joshua Coutinho - will be bringing their show to the Blackbutt Memorial Hall this evening as a fundraiser for the Blackbutt & Benarkin Aged Care Association's "Greenhills Villas Project". Tickets are $35 per head or $55 which includes a burger and drinks voucher plus monster raffle and lucky spot tickets. Doors at open at 5:30pm with the comedy show starting at 7:30pm. Wooroolin Line Dancers

Yarraman Country Markets

Richard Ogden Concert - Nanango
Sunshine Coast singer Richard Ogden will be bringing his funky urban-folk band back to Nanango for a concert tonight. The concert will kick off at 7:00pm at the Nanango Theatre Company's Opera House, on the corner of George and Elk streets. Doors open 30 minutes before. Tickets are $25 and can be booked online.
Go Getta Girls - Kingaroy

South Burnett Cricket
South Burnett Cricket Association Junior and Senior games will be played around the region today. In Stage 1, Kingaroy Kangaroos v Nanango Scorpions at Alan Downie Sportsfields, Nanango; in Stage 2, Kingaroy Kookaburras v Kingaroy Cobras at Taabinga State School; and Murgon v Nanango Scorpions Purple at River Road Oval, Kingaroy; in Stage 3, Kingaroy v Nanango Scorpions at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy. All junior games start at 8:00am. In South Burnett Senior Cricket, Wondai Wolves v Saints at Wondai Cricket Ground; Wooroolin Warriors v Kingaroy Services at Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy; and Nanango Scorpions v Murgon Diggers at Alan Downie Sports Fields, Nanango. Senior games start at 12:30pm. In the Dalby competition, Tingoora Vikings will take on Criterions at Tingoora Sportsground from noon. In the Gympie competition, Murgon Crusaders will take on Valleys in Day 2 of their two-day match at Murgon Sportsground from 12:30pm.
Saturday Library Day - Maidenwell
- The volunteers from the Maidenwell QCWA will be supervising the regular weekly Saturday Library Day (featuring books loaned from Kingaroy Library) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. A library day is held in the Maidenwell Hall in Pool Street every Wednesday and Saturday.
Come & Try Dragon Boating - BP Dam
The Barambah Dragons dragon boat club invites people to try out the ancient Chinese sport of dragon boat racing at Bjelke-Petersen Dam from 9:00am (for a 9:30am paddle-off) on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Paddles and gear will be supplied but participants should wear closed shoes that can tolerate getting wet and bring along sunscreen, water, a towel and warm clothes for afterwards. The event is free and will be followed by a gold coin donation sausage sizzle. Everyone is welcome! NB. Check the club's Facebook page as times could change due to the weather.
Inverlaw Hall Valentine's Day Dance
- A dance will be held at Inverlaw Hall on the Burrandowan Road (roughly 20km from Kingaroy) from 8:00pm until late this evening. The band will be Chattanooga.
