The mercury officially hit -3.6 degrees C on Wednesday morning at Kingaroy Airport, the coldest day recorded so far this year in Kingaroy by the Bureau of Meteorology.
This compares with -0.9 degrees on Tuesday.
There have been frosts reported across the region from Proston to Nanango.
It was even cooler further west, with a -4.4 degrees at Injune, the coldest temperature on Wednesday morning in Queensland.
The cold weather has been blamed on a polar airmass which has brought heavy snow to the Alpine region of southern NSW this week as well as lighter falls in the New England area.
BOM has predicted a comparatively warm minimum of 0 degrees in Kingaroy on Thursday, followed by 2 degrees on Friday.
NB. BOM’s mean minimum temperature for Kingaroy for June is 5.5 degrees, dropping to 3.8 degrees in July. The coldest temperature ever recorded in Queensland was -10.6 degrees at Stanthorpe.
