Former Nanango State High School student Mia Glenny is the lucky recipient of a $1000 National Council of Women in Queensland bursary.

The bursary was sponsored by the South Burnett Regional Council and was open for female students residing in the SBRC area to recognise the additional difficulties faced when studying away from home.

Mia is currently in her second year of a Bachelor of Nursing degree at USQ in Toowoomba.

She said she would use the bursary to assist with the increased costs associated with leaving home to pursue tertiary study, and the extra costs during clinical placements.

“I grew up in a rural community and always enjoyed helping with work on our farm at home with mum, dad and my older sister,” she said in her application.

“I completed my schooling at Nanango State School and Nanango State High School, finishing in 2021.

“I have been heavily involved in the sporting community in my town and have continued this involvement during my time at the residential colleges at my local university.

“I am passionate about giving back to my community through caring for others.

“On completion of my degree I wish to work in rural and remote areas to provide healthcare services to those who need it most.”

Mia said she had been inspired by the healthcare teams who had worked during the pandemic.

“I aspire to have a positive impact on the people I assist and work with in my career and provide the best care to those who need it most,” she said.
