Three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in Queensland on Tuesday but only two of the people were infected locally.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the fact only two cases were local transmissions was “a terrific result”.

The two cases are:

  • A 37-year-old male nurse who lives at Deebing Heights and works in the COVID ward at Ipswich Hospital. Health Minister Dr Steven Miles said the man had done the right thing and was tested after experiencing abdominal pain, which is not usually considered a symptom.
  • An 18-year-old male student at Staines Memorial College in Redbank Plains. He is the second student at the College to have tested positive and was already in quarantine. The college, which has about 600 students, is currently closed and students and staff are undergoing testing.

The third case was a man detained by police upon arrival after a Jetstar flight JQ-560 from Melbourne to Brisbane on Monday.

Minister Miles said the man was known to have tested positive to COVID-19 some time ago in Victoria, and authorities had been trying to locate him.

Police were now investigating to determine whether an offence had been committed.

The man has been placed into hotel quarantine.

There are currently 28 active COVID-19 cases in Queensland, taking the total since the pandemic began to 1124.

During the past 24 hours, 7489 tests have been carried out.

UPDATE:  A public health alert has not been issued for Jetstar flight JQ-560 as new advice provided to Queensland Health is that he was not infectious while on the flight.
