South Burnett Regional Council has released the next schedule for the $1.24 million upgrade of Murgon’s footpaths.

Week commencing March 22

Section 2 – Dog Wash to Bakery – Contractors reached 80 per cent completion in this section in the previous week, with one final pour remaining. This final pour will reinstate the pedestrian ramp adjacent to the Pizza Shop, as seen in red, below.

Section 3 – Max Employment to The Royal Hotel – Completion of the concrete preparation and Telstra infrastructure replacement is scheduled to occur at the beginning of the week. The contractors are working towards commencing concrete reinstatement on Wednesday. This section including areas adjacent to Max Employment and The Royal Hotel can be seen in purple in the image below.

Section 4 – Encore Pilates to Advice Partners – This new construction zone will commence with demolition on Tuesday night and pedestrian detours installed to allow for trading as per usual. As per previous sections, we have forecast to successfully reinstate this area within two weeks from the demolition date. This area can be seen highlighted in blue.

Week commencing March 29

Section 2 – Dog Wash to Bakery – Practically complete.

Section 3 – Max Employment to The Royal Hotel – Final finishing works will complete this section in the early stages of this new week. Council will return to remove and replace the pedestrian ramp located on the corner, which remains in-situ to ensure pedestrian movement throughout construction.

Section 4 – Encore Pilates to Advice Partners – With contractors completing demolition and earthworks, construction of the kerb and channel will occur at the beginning of this week. This will allow the subsequent concrete pours to occur prior to close of business on Friday evening.

EARLIER

Week commencing Sunday, March 15:

Section 1 – Project contractors are scheduled to complete the remaining concrete pours at the beginning of the week. The completion of these works will result in the removal of all fencing and equipment from this area once the concrete had cured. The remaining works area of Section 1 are highlighted and labelled in Yellow.

Section 2 – Completion of the concrete preparation and Telstra infrastructure replacement is scheduled to occur in the beginning of the week opposite the pizza shop. This is to allow for the full width concrete pour on Wednesday. All fencing from this area is to be removed once the concrete has cured. Section Two is highlighted and labelled below in Red.

Section 3 – Project contractors are to commence demolition adjacent to The Royal Hotel on Monday night. The boundary of these works are represented by the area highlighted in Purple and would join with the existing bottle shop drive thru. Kerb and channel replacement was scheduled to occur on Thursday morning, allowing for concrete pours next week.

Week commencing Sunday,  March 22

Section 2 – This stage expected to be practically complete.

Section 3 – Completion of the concreting preparation and Telstra infrastructure replacement is scheduled to occur at the beginning of the week. This preparation will allow for footpath replacement on the Wednesday and Thursday, weather permitting.

Recent rain has delayed progress on the Murgon footpath upgrade.

Week commencing Sunday, March 8:

Stage 1 – Project contractors are undertaking reinstatement of site damage caused by rain and will finalise preparations for concrete pouring. The initial areas which will be reinstated include those adjacent to A&S Legal and Riya’s Indian, scheduled for Tuesday evening.

Concrete pouring will then commence for this section and proceed towards the corner of Krebs Street through the remainder of the week. These areas will remain fenced until the concrete cures and is able to withstand usual foot traffic.

Section 2 – Completion of the demolition works between the Dog Wash and the Bakery will occur on Monday evening. Works will only commence upon the review of wet weather impacts. New kerb and channel through this area will be installed on Thursday morning if there is no further impact from wet weather. Road works will commence following curing of the kerb and channel works, with reinstatement of footpath the following week.

Week commencing Sunday,  March 15:

Section 1 – Practically complete.

Section 2 – The preparation of the base for concrete pouring will be completed between the Dog Wash extending through to the Bakery. This will allow workers to reinstate the footpath early in the week. Once the concrete has cured the majority of fencing and ramps will be removed prior to the weekend.

Section 3 – Following the completion on Section 1, demolition and earthworks will commence in Section 3 as highlighted in red, in the image below. The new region is adjacent to the Royal Hotel on the corner of Lamb Street and Gore Street. Scheduled work will have the demolition and earthworks completed by the end of this week.

Council has been working in wet conditions during both night works and weekends in order to have the demolished areas prepared for concreting as rapidly as possible, and will continue to schedule works around the forecast weather.

February 28, 2020

South Burnett Regional Council has released an updated work schedule for the $1.24 million upgrade of Murgon’s footpaths.

A Council spokesperson said works have been delayed by recent storms with wet weather preventing planned works and causing extra repairs.

The schedule has been amended to start demolition of the next section between the Dog Wash and the Bakery mid next week.

STAGE 1: Activities planned for the week beginning March 1:

A new demolition work zone will be set up between the Dog Wash and the Bakery on Tuesday as highlighted by yellow (see image below).

These works will detour pedestrians around the works zones and use the custom pedestrian ramps for shop access.

Finishing works and fencing removal from Stage 1 at the intersection of Krebs and Lamb streets is scheduled to be removed by 6:00pm on Wednesday, however this is heavily subject to weather conditions.

As usual, the majority of works will finish Friday morning allowing for weekend activities.

These works will result in the partial closure of the service lane and parking areas directly adjacent to the work zones. Works occurring during standard working hours will include sign replacements, surveying, formwork and communication infrastructure relocation.

STAGE 2: Activities planned for the week beginning March 8:

Demolition earthworks in the bakery region will be close to completion at the start of this week allowing for the kerb and channel to be installed.

Demolition and Earthworks will then commence in a new section, the lower stage highlighted in red (see image below). Shops in this region include those between Encore Pilates, through to Advice Partners.

Concreting works will complete the preparation works for the new pavement adjacent to the bakery, on Friday morning, allowing for an early morning pour the following week.

February 25, 2020

STAGE 2 Activities planned for the week beginning March 1:

Stage 1 demolition and earthworks are scheduled to be complete (see Stage 1, below).

Stage 2 demolition works are scheduled to begin with businesses located between Encore Pilates and Advice Partners being affected.

Concreting works will include the pouring of new pavement adjacent to the intersection of Lamb and Gore streets early in the week, moving to the newly demolished sections.

Motorists and pedestrians are requested to travel with care and obey signs.

February 13, 2020

South Burnett Regional Council’s $1.24 million project to replace Murgon kerbs and footpaths began this week.

A Council spokesperson said all businesses along Lamb Street would be able to remain open during construction.

Pedestrian ramps will provide access to shops.

The majority of the works, between Krebs Street and Gore Street, will be done between 6:00pm-6:00am with supporting tasks during normal working hours as required.

Activities planned for the week beginning February 10 (see below):

Awning posts will be repaired on the southern side of Lamb Street, between Furniture Zone and Betta Home Living.
