Work on six infrastructure upgrades has been providing work for local tradespeople and builders over the past few months, thanks to Federal Government funding.

South Burnett Regional property portfolio chair Cr Terry Fleischfresser said the six projects had been funded through the Drought Communities Program (DCP).

DCP provides eligible councils with up to $1 million to support local community infrastructure, as well as businesses who have been affected by drought.

Work on the projects began in February, and is being overseen by the South Burnett Regional Council’s property department.

The projects are:

  • Roofing the Proston Showgrounds pavilion
  • Building a small equipment shed at the Wondai Swimming Pool
  • Upgrading the toilets and showers at the Murgon SES building
  • Repainting the exterior of Council’s Appin Street public housing units
  • Reroofing the Wondai Showgrounds grandstand
  • Replacing the Maidenwell Sportsground septic system

Staff will move back into the Wondai office in a few months when work is complete.

The library will also be moved there.

After this, the former library building will be converted to a Council storeroom.

Cr Fleischfresser said Council had appointed consultants CT Management Group Pty Ltd (CTM) to carry out condition assessments of all Council buildings.

The company will begin work in late March, starting in Kingaroy.

CTM will assess each building overall, including internal and external walls, windows, roofing, doors, floor coverings, kitchen and bathroom fit outs, carports and driveways, air conditioning systems and fire, gas and electrical safety.

The results of their assessments will be used by Council to determine future building maintenance and renewal programs.

It will also inform the Council’s long-term asset management plans.
