Queensland RSPCA shelters are bursting at the seams – including Kingaroy – and cannot accept any more animals to rehouse until May.

Kingaroy acting shelter manager Bonny Heit said on Tuesday that Kingaroy was in the same position as shelters across the State.

“Usually if we have too many animals we can transfer some to another shelter but we have a situation at the moment where everything is full,” she said.

“We can’t transfer any animals anywhere.”

Ms Heit said Kingaroy had a lot of cats, but there were also a dogs and even a few roosters.

RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said all shelters across Queensland will have a special sale this weekend in a bid to reduce numbers.

“For one weekend only, you can adopt an adult dog or cat from RSPCA Queensland Adoption Centres for just $50,” Mr Beatty said.

“Visit your local RSPCA this weekend – Saturday and Sunday April 8-9 –  to find your furever friend.

“We are currently caring for over 2300 pets across the State and would love to find these precious pets their furever homes in time for the holidays.

“We have dogs and cats of all ages, shapes and sizes just patiently waiting.”
