Kingaroy police were forced to use capsicum spray to break up a wild fight between two mobs of drunks in the Kingaroy CBD in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police were called to the large street disturbance about 1:30am in Youngman Street, near the intersection with Haly Street.

Officer-in-charge of Kingaroy police, Senior Sergeant Duane Frank, said a crowd of onlookers was urging on the combatants, who had spilled onto the roadway.

One man was taken to hospital by ambulance with severe facial injuries, including possible facial fractures and a broken nose.

Three other men were arrested and charged with public-nuisance related offences: a 30-year-old Nanango man, a 23-year-old Maryborough man, and a 26-year-old Chinchilla man.

“Investigations are continuing and there’s a likelihood of more persons being charged,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

Local CCTV footage will be accessed and reviewed.

“Police were disgusted by the behaviour. As they were trying to calm it down, other people were trying to intervene, abusing police and trying to drag people away,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

“People were intoxicated. Many had been at a licensed premises earlier in the night.

“They obviously have nothing better to do than start a fight.

“One of the males was very threatening and violent.

“Police deployed capsicum spray to stop the fighting.”

The three men charged will appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on January 16.
